Does anyone belong to one, or can recommend one that is in the Baltimore area?
When I lived downtown I went to Brick Bodies (http://www.brickbodies.com/) and I really liked it. Don't let the name fool you - it's not (or at least it wasn't when I was there) a meathead club. It's right downtown near Lexington Market and it's busy defore work hours and after work hours, but it's dead during the day and moderately-busy at lunch and in the evening. I don't remember what membership fees were, though. It's cheeper than the 24-hour place for sure.

Ooh. I've seen their adverts on the television. I'll have to go check them out. When I heard the name I was alittle skeptical but its probably alright.
And Warren, when are you going to move back to Mobtown. Really now, you've been gone too long ;)

...and is that Mr.Chomsky as your avatar? It looks like him, if he were a woodcut.

I just saw a PeTA ad on E. Monument St.(!!)
I can't remember exactly what it says but it has to do with meat causing impotence. I'll try to take pictures and post them up :D
ETA: here is the PeTA news on it: http://www.peta.org/Automation/NewsItem.asp?id=3796

Hi... we're building a house up in Hagerstown and should be moving in by early Spring... I'm a 30-something mom of 2 young children... hubby works in DC... We've been vegetarians for five years, although we are not exactly the most fit veggies... we're working on it... And we're raising our kids vegetarian... I'd love to connect with other veg moms with kids in the area!

Hey Tara,
Sorry, I'm not a Mom, but welcome to Merryland :)
Lots of veg*n friendly places in the DC/Baltimore region. You might want to look into getting some local papers (I'm not familiar with Hagerstown, but in the city we have the Citypaper and things like that)

Hi, I live in Maryland also. I live in southern Prince Georges County. Do you guys know any good natural health food stores in the area, because the closest Whole Foods is in Annapolis, and I need somewhere else to go because the local Giant has no selection. Thanks.

Hey vegbassist - there are millions of HFSs around PG County... can you give me a better idea of where you are? City?
Also, on Giant: Their brand of bread/bagels is vegan (that is, all the funny glycerides, enzymes, etc are of vegetable origin), and also, a bunch of their Giant brand cookies (which are very cheap) are vegan. :) I heart Giant. I had to advertize.

Hey Vegbassist
For PG the HFS of choice is Laurel HFS or MOM's.
There is Dave's in Columbia, Roots in Clarksville, and a host of HFS is Baltimore and Washington.
If you want the addresses, go back a page or two and I've listed most of them :)

Ok, thanks. I live in Brandywine, it's about 20 minutes from Waldorf. Yeah I have had some of Giants vegan cookies, but the ones I love haven't been in stock for a few weeks. The problem is that my parents don't want to drive me far away so I can go to a HFS, but I will suggest those. Thanks again.
It's only $35/month if you do a bank draft (about $5 more otherwise). Best deal in town, baby. :)

vegbassist: Pre-Car-Ownership, I used to take the metro into DC when I wanted to stock up on cute HFS items. There's a Whole Foods on like, every corner. Maybe you can use public transportation?

Ahhh Waldorf. I have some friends in Waldorf. There are a few HFS around there and Charles Co. I'll get the addresses for ya :)

I'll try that CharityAJO, thanks. Yeah HFS in Waldorf would probably be best since we have to go up there at least once a week. Do you guys know of any in the Upper Marlboro area also?

In Waldorf:
Country Nutrition
950 Old Line Centre
301-645-1525
Sunshine Health Food Store
7395 Liberty Rd, Gwynn Oak, MD 21207
(410) 944-8285
Interior Designs Nutritional
5015 Angel Fish Ct, Waldorf, MD 20603
(301) 705-5944
And, as for Upper M. there really isn't much in there. But, P(i)G County has alot:
Potomac Adventist Book & Health Food Store (probably you're best bet)
12004 Cherry Hill Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904
301-572-0700
Laurel Health Foods Inc
131 Bowie Rd., Laurel, MD
(301) 498-7191
Basic Bulk Health Foods
2617 Lackawanna St., Hyattsville, MD
(301) 434-1745
Haynal Health Food Inc
201 Belton Rd, Silver Spring, MD
(301) 681-5202
If you can get to the Metro, you can pretty much make it to any of these places. To plan your route you might want to look at:
http://www.wmata.com - Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority
http://www.corridortransit.com - Corridor Transit Bus (covers Laurel, Columbia, Maryland City, Elkridge, Burtonsville, College Park, Glen Burnie, etc. Pretty much gets you to where you need to go.)
http://www.mtamaryland.com - MARC train, Lightrail, Busses, Commuter Bus, Subway
I know the MTA Commuter Bus stops off in La Plata/Waldorf (Route 907), so you can pretty much get anywhere in DC or Baltimore from there and the cities around it.
If you need help planning a trip, PM me, I'm a pro at public transportation :)

Wow kerouac! Thanks so much! I had no idea there were any stores in Waldorf, so those three are great. And I will have to check out the other stores when I'm in those areas. The public transportation tips are great to. I'll have to try that sometime.:)

Last time I went to Laurel HFS they had this Vegan Coconut Creme Pie that was so awesome, I asked who made it. There's a new small buisness called "Elevative Eats" that makes deserts, They are in MD, and in the Laurel area.
I emailed them and told them how much they rock, and they sent me some places who'll be carrying their stuff.
If you happen to be near one of these places, go, eat some pie:
Glut Coop
Tacoma Park-SS Coop
Wellness Cafe
Cash Grocer
Ok Natural Foods
Yabba Pot
Bethesda Coop

Has anyone been to the Han Ah Reum Asian Supermarket in Catonsville?
It is the best Asian Food market I've been to yet. Its nearly as big as Walmart and its in a pretty good spot.
If anyone is interested in going here is the address:
Han Ah Reum-Baltimore
800 N. Rolling Road
Catonsville, MD 21228

I don't know about catonsville because I've never heard of that but I know there is a asian market by that name in montgomery county. They have a lot of produce but I know it's not organic. However its a good place to find a variety of chloryphyll rich greens so I do go there sometimes.

Dude, I've been trying to pick up this pie but can't find it. Do you have the contact info for Elevative Eats? Maybe I can just order some from them.

I'll PM you their email and number, they respond pretty quick and I'm sure they would make up a batch for you.
LHFS can be slow to restock, but the pie is to die for.
If anyone is in College Park or PG county and feels the needs to feed, Mandalay restaurant is a pretty good option.
Take the route 1 exit off 495. Heading towards campus, it will be on your left. Its a little hole-in-the-wall and easy to miss, if you've crossed over 193 or passed "China buffet" (in big red letters on the right), you've gone too far. Mandalay is just before for ramp to 193.
9091-A Baltimore Ave.
College Park, MD
301-345-8540
Burmesian (sp?) food with a big vegan menu section, priced at around 7-8 bucks per entree.
Went there for my first time today and will be going back, a lot.
They are closed Sundays/Mondays and open til 9 I think during the week and til 10 on Saturday.
give it a try ;)

Mandalay rocks my world. I highly recommend the mango salad, and coconut creme tofu. I also enjoy the fact that they have vegan dessert options, which isn't usually the case unless you go to some fancy all-vegan restaurant.
