Among the short list of preferred grad schools are Loyola and JHU, so I may be back in Baltimore next year! If I was buying in Baltimore (and I might be, if I get into JHU PhD-track program) I'd like to be up in Mt. Washington :lick:

I bought in Locust Point, this past September - one of the old rowhomes, right across the street from the new big stuff - I think when all was said and done they were selling in the mid $300,000 range -- pretty much 3x as much as I paid. It's CRAZY. There's talk of tearing down the grain elevator and re-working the waterfront to make it more attractive to business, etc.

Mt. Washington is cooool, but not cheap either. Let's face it, real estate isn't cheap anywhere these days.

Oh yeah... Locust Point is nice... I think if I was actually settling down in Baltimore (or anywhere for that matter) it won't be until I get my masters and have started PhD research and have a job either at a school or in counseling. What I like about Baltimore is that it IS somewhere where I can enjoy city-life but still settle down in when I'm ready. I just can't see doing that in LA, Boston, or New York. Philly, Seattle, and Baltimore are, for that reason, my main grad school targets.

Who knows what tomorrow brings, though...

where can you get good vegan food in baltimore?
i dont mean a place where i can get a salad or some weird expensive miso soup crap

i got that VRG list of places to eat there but it turned out to be crap... i went to holy frijoles and as i was eating the chips i found out they werent vegan and the only things i could have were rice and guac

then i tried some chinese place... mr something or other... they didnt speak english and couldnt really tell me what was vegan or not. i ended up getting something they said had no eggs or dairy from the vegetarian page and got really sick

baltimore has got to have some good places...
i hate having to drive to annapolis, DC, and rockville just to eat really yummy vegan food

There's a market in Columbia that I go to since I work out there, called David's Natural Market. They have a cafe counter too, usually a few vegan offerings per day. I don't know of any good places downtown, but I'm on the lookout.

What are you doing in baltimore?

When I lived there I was vegetarian, not vegan, but for what it's worth, I went to Whole Foods/Fresh Fields a lot. There's one in Mt. Washington and a newer one between the harbor and fells point. City Cafe in Mt. Vernon was pretty veg-friendly, as I recall. Also, there's a decent indian place downtown the name of which I cannot recall.

the new whole foods sucks horribly... i went there once and then i decided to drive all the way to annapolis because theirs is better

Oh, that's ok too. I was part of the whole Birth Control thread when it got ugly. I sort of came back in waiving a flag.
