Hi Marylanders! :hi:

The animal planet expo is coming to maryland this weekend (august 19 and 20th) 10:30am-4pm both days. Anyone going? I was trying to find info on it to see if its completely animal friend (like if they stole animals from the wild to present them, or have animals [such as chimps] doing unnatural things or what not I would not want to be apart of it)

i'm finally finally finally here!!! :)

i love it!! 3 places i can eat: franklin's in hyattsville, berwyn cafe in college park, and mark's kitchen in silver spring/takoma park area. all delicious and vegan friendly! :)

i don't know if any of you are interested, but i work at friendship hospital for animals in tenleytown. great doctors, 24 hours. if you have pets, you should check it out for vet stuff!

also, does anyone here go to university of maryland? i haven't made any friends here yet, and i'm lonely :(

I ate at Mark's Kitchen for breakfast on Saturday. I have to say the waitstaff was below par. My waiter got the drink order wrong, gave me a look when I asked him to correct it, then he brought out our food w/o any condiments. He just walked away. After we scanned the table to make sure it wasn't already on the table and we missed it somehow, my friend had to walk all the way up to the counter in order to get the ketchup and maple syrup. The food was good.

The metro also goes to Rockville where there are more vegan restaurants. Yuan Fu, The Vegetable Garden and vegan-friendly Lebanese Taverna.

I hadn't heard of Franklin's. Is it pure vegetarian? Are they vegan-friendly? Where in Hyattsville? They are not listed in Happy Cow.com or vegetarian-restaurants.net

Glad you are adjusting well and enjoying your new surroundings. :bobo:

Franklin's is not strictly veg, but it has vegetarian options. I get the 3 bean chili or the 3 bean salad. there's a server that's vegan there, so i knew i was safe. :)...i don't know what road it's on (im really bad at directions) but it's a cool brewery/restaurant/toy store.

i've been eating at the maryland food coop every day since schools been in session. they have amazing sandwiches and sooo many vegan frozen foods.

Sorry, Barry Never been.

One World Cafe will never get my service. I was near the waterfront in Baltimore with a friend. We spent $20 on a cab to go there. Their kitchen was scheduled to close 15 minutes after we got there, but they closed it early and decided it was too much of a bother to make us any sustainable food.

Try Yabba.

Wish I could be of more help. We ended up eating at a regular restaurant that met our vegan needs.

HAY DERE

From June through mid-August I'm gonna be living in Mt. Airy with my cousin and her manpartner and will be making hella commute to Suitland for internship with the Census Bureau. My questions are thusly:

1) What are some good vegan-friendly restaurants/grocery stores in the area?
2) What would be the best (ie fastest) way to get from Mt. Airy to a metro station?

Any vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the University of Maryland - College Park area? My boyfriend and I are going to visit Walter Reed but are stopping at U of M on our way down... Thanks.
