Are there any people here from NW indiana? That would be a cool meet up!

I'm in North Central Indiana, but I'd certainly be up for a meeting in NW Indiana, or anywhere within two hours really.. You might also check out the Illinois thread too, as there are regular Chicago meet ups. Maybe we could carpool to some of them. I see from your earlier post that your in Michigan City. I was thinking of taking the train to the May 1st meet up... you should come along.
During the summer I come up to Michigan City with my dogs to go swimming at Central Beach or Mt Baldi. Unfortunately there aren't too many places around here (South Bend) that dogs can swim, but Michigan City's only an hour away so it works out okay.
... Are there any veg friendly restaurants around you? There's like nothing in South Bend.

Maybe sometime during the year we could have an Indy meetup or something like that? Indy's fairly central, and if we could find a time when everyone isn't completely nuts...

Hi Nonna, nice to meet you.
We should have a northern indiana get-together sometime, there seem to be a lot of us in the area.

Hi all, I've lived in Indiana my whole life but only recently became a vegetarian. I'm still figuring out where to eat in Indy (thankfully I have a good veggie friend helping), but I'm also hoping someone knows reasonable places in South Bend! My whole family lives there and it was difficult to go out to eat with them a couple of weeks ago.

I've been to the Veggie Bites restaurant too. Gotta love vegan fast food.

Since you're so close to Chicago you'll have to join us for some of the Vegan Meetups they have there. Check out the Illinois thread for details on when and where they are. I'm in South Bend, IN but I've been going over there every few months, usually taking the train.

Hmm... I don't really know. South Bend doesn't have any vegetarian restaurants and I don't know what one would consider veg-friendly either. If you like Indian food, you should check out Star of India on Grape Road (technically mishawaka). There's a greek restaurant called Ellias that supposed to have good falafel, but I've never been there. One of my favorite restaurants to go to is Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, which has a great vegetarian black bean burrito. Generally when I'm eating with family we just go to different chain restaurants, and pretty much everywhere these days has something on the menu for vegetarians, although I try and steer them to the more veg-friendly chains like Panera or Ruby Tuesdays, etc.

Thanks. I grew up in SB but was still at a loss to know where to go! I picked Houlihan's a couple of weeks ago, thinking it would be a chain with enough choices, but there was very little for me to choose (and they were out of the one thing that sounded good). I love Indian but my family does not.

Hacienda is a family favorite--I'm sure I'll suggest that next time!

Howdy :hi: you're definetely not the only veg in Fort Wayne... sofcowgirl who posted above you is also from there. I'm about an hour and half north west but have family in New Haven so I get out that way at least a couple times each year.

South Bend/Michiana folks - found a new place to eat.

Elia’s Mediterranean Cuisine
115 Dixieway North
South Bend
277-7239

Very helpful and friendly and very easy to work with. . Well, actually it wasn't even an issue. If it doesn't directly say it has meat or cheese in it, then it's safe.

Well Baklava has honey...but otherwise, it's good

I've heard of Medaryville. I used to work in Culver.

I live in Indy now. Hello new person in Fort Wayne... And glad to hear there is a new place to eat in SB. I grew up there and visit family there semi-frequently.

The Udupi in Indy is a good vegetarian resturant.

Hello all. I'm a new Indianapolis resident, just moved from Gainesville, FL. I have to admit, I haven't been too successful with vegan options here so far. Its quite different from Gainesville =)

I second evilvegan, Udupi cafe is awesome!! The Indian Bazaar next door is also great for Indian ingredients and just fun to explore.
