That place looks amazing but I think their food sucks. Way overrated IMO. They do have good desserts though, especially shakes. :lick:

Blind Faith or the Diner, do you mean?

The Diner. I didn't see your post when I posted.

VP..you could get up to Evanston right quick too from Arlington House (which, btw, I've heard can be a bit dodgy, so be careful :) ). In Evanston, there is the fantabulous Blind Faith Cafe. (www.blindfaithcafe.com)!

Thanks!! We'll check both of them out if we have time. As for dodgy hostels...so long as the beds are clean, for two nights that's all I care for. We have a private 2 bed, 1/2 bath...so I'm not too worried. Besides...after working at the India House in New Orleans for a year (which is a top place btw) NOTHING phases me. We had folks mugged on our front steps!!

I think it's a matter of taste, 'cause I don't think the Diner sucks at all. Granted, I haven't been crazy about every single thing I've eaten there, but I could say that about any restaurant I've ever eaten at. My favorite meal at the moment from Chicago Diner is the red pepper ravioli. It's served with yummy steamed kale and asparagus on the side, as well as garlic bread. It's really delicious! The seasoned seitan strips are great, too (they typically are served on one of the salads), and as they're not on the menu, you can ask for a side order with barbecue sauce to dip them in. Good stuff!

The Diner has good sandwiches, mashed potatoes and gravy, and great raw desserts. In addition, as Michael mentioned above, having a shake is a must...so, so yummy!!!

Try to sit on the patio if you can, as it's really nice out there. I love it anytime, but it's especially wonderful at night.

I like the Chicago Diner too. The only thing I'm not a fan of is their vegan cheese. The Red Pepper Ravioli was really good. I should have had a shake, but I was already suffering from a sugar overload headache by then!

I can vouch for the red pepper ravoli. Yum. I still have never had one of the famous shakes though. It didn't sound appetizing for some reason after eating 2 lbs of vegan cake icing. :p

Their shakes are unreal.

Im new here. My name is Candi and I live in Union. It is a small town (600 people) off I-90 near Marengo and Huntley. No where to eat here really so I just cook for myself. :furious: I'll have to take drive one day and try the places mentioned!

I have no idea where any of those places are. Welcome to VB! You might want to check out the VegChicago meetup (http://vegan.meetup.com/11/?gj=sj3), a bunch of us get together once a month to eat at different restaurants.

I though you were saying you live in Union also, then I realized you were misusing quotes. :p

It says the July meetup is closed to new RSVPs. Anyone know why? I don't know that I'll be able to come to that one with work, but I was just wondering.

They close it to keep people from signing up before it's announced. So does this mean you're planning on coming back? :)

I won't make the July meetup because I'm coming up for too many other things.

I'm probably coming up for gay pride weekend June 23rd/24th. Anyone else going to the pride parade? It's way too crowded, and the bars are a nightmare, and the streets are trashed, but it's still a lot of fun. I don't think we should stand on the corner of Halsted and Belmont this year though seeing how it's the busiest intersection. Closer to Addison would be good.

Then I'll be up for the Pitchfork Music Festival (http://pitchforkmusicfestival.com/) July 14th/15th, the August VegChicago Meetup August 3rd/4th, and the Northalsted Market Days (http://www.northalsted.com/daze.htm) on August 11th/12th.

I won't be able to make it to the Pride Parade, as I have to work that weekend. I agree with picking a spot that is NOT where we stood last year...that was pure craziness! :dizzy:

I'm really looking forward to sharing the Pitchfork, August Meetup, and Northalsted Market Days experiences with you and Hummus! and whomever else we can rustle up. Vggiegirl, where are you?

I forgot to strike Market Days off my list, as that's the weekend I'm in Boston. :-/

ETA: Oh, and I'm coming up August 26th for a Sox game.

Hey Poet,
Enjoy your time in Chicago! That would be cool if we met up for lunch or dinner if you're available Sunday. (Not sure when your concert is). I'll be in Chicago from 11 am until 8 pm on Sunday. I decided not to come up Saturday since it's just by myself. The Chicago Diner and the Pick Me Up Cafe are both right near where I'll be in the Halsted/Addison area.

Kelly...I did get your message. With everything that was going on I'm really sorry that I didn't get a chance to call you back.

We had an absolute blast, and I can honestly say...even though we didn't make it to either the Pick Me Up, or The Diner, I found some GREAT vegan friendly food in Chicago.

Tamarind was amazing...Spicy Thai Basil Tofu...and CHEAP. The concert was fantastic, even got to meet the band. It was a fabulous time.

I'm very glad to be home however...I missed my bed.

I read in today's Red Eye that "Veggies to Go" in Hyde Park is opening another location at Clark and Fullerton. Yay!

Ooh! I was reading about this place a couple of weeks ago. It's on my "must visit" list, for when we're back in town. I used to live about 40 yards from that Quizno's.

Oh, how I love Hyde Park. :D

Had a lot of fun at the Pitchfork Music Festival with Hummus this weekend, and got to spend the weekend with Carnelian.

The end of the trip kinda sucked when I lost my wallet, but I spent all day today replacing IDs and credit cards and most of that hassle is over with. Except that I just received a knock at the door from the police department here (at 1:00 AM!, freaking me out) telling me that the police department in Illinois found my wallet. (A different suburb from where I lost it, interestingly). I have to call in the morning for details.
