Unfortunately, I will not be going this time. It's just too far north and I said I would watch a friend's dog. He's an old boy with Cushings and she really wants me to watch him since I know him and I'm vet.

Awww...shucks! :(
I believe IamJen is going to be the guest organizer for the February Meetup, and I know she's interested in having an event on the south side of the city, so hopefully the timing of and location for that shindig will work out for you!

I would love to know what places are on the south side, even if it is the northern south side. As it turns out my dad is getting some bloodwork and a heart ultrasound that day as well, and I will definately be going with him for that. He's been having problems with shortness of breath and is on meds for that, but he's getting his heart evaluated for completeness sake (there's also a history of heart disease in the family). I hope to see y'all in Feb at the latest.

Question for Michael, Hummus!, Tricia Soup, and IamJen:
What is your transportation situation (from Union Station?) for getting to Udupi Palace?
Question for all VBers going to the meetup:
What do we want to do after the meetup and before Michael, Hummus!, and Tricia Soup catch their train, approx 2 to 5pm?

We were planning on taking the L. Tricia assured me that it wouldn't be too difficult to find our way. *knock on wood*

It's a bit of pain to get to this area of town. Plan on a looooong train & bus ride. :)

Jen, I can pick you up. I'd offer to pick everyone else up at Union Station, but I'm not sure yet if Kim will be joining us, and if he does, I won't have room for everyone (unless someone doesn't mind being strapped to the roof of my car). John...are you able to scoop up the Union Station crew?
I'm up for absolutely ANYTHING afterward!

Yippee!!! Can't wait to see everyone! :hamster:
P.S. Erin, one of these times we'll have to figure out a way for you NOT to have to work so you can hang with us afterward!

Did anyone happen to sign up for a guest that they're not bringing? Someone expressed an interest in going but the meetup is technically full. I'll see if maybe they want to meet us afterward just in case.
Tricia said she'd contact jj1 about picking us up.

I'll have a space, since Kristen's plans have changed. I signed up with a guest. Is this the same person that carnelian knows about?

I'm not sure, I didn't see her mention anyone. It's DelicGrape. I'll pm her and let her know.

The individuals designated as my guests are Magnus (Hans) and his wife Janice. The other person is someone who is already a Meetup member who replied "yes" and just needs a ride.

So, we're going to have: carnelian, IamJen and the mystery meetup gal, Mr & Mrs. jj1, Mr & Mrs. Magnus, Michael, Tricia, Hummus!, vggiegirl, DelicGrape...woo hoo!
Marisa, I wish you could join us, but I hope everything goes well for your dad.
re: South Side restaurants (long): how far down are you again, like 200th or something? The closest one I can think off hand is Vegetarian Fun Foods Supreme. It's this little mostly vegan (they have honey in some things) place at 87th and Stoney Island. (1702 E 87th). Soul Veg is at 75th and Indiana. It's a bit further, but it's only like 5 blocks from the freeway.
In my neck of the woods, in Hyde Park, there's:
The Nile (55th and Lake Park Ave.)..great Middle Eastern place with tons of veg fare
Rajun Cajun (53rd street just west of Lake Park)...combination soul food/Indian restaurant. Fantastic food! They know me by name. :D
Uncle Joe's: sandwich shop on the campus of UChicago. Vegan sandwiches, chili, etc. Also sell vegan cookies, etc.
Third World Cafe (53rd and Kenwood): All vegetarian mostly coffee shop..good sandwiches and lots of vegan soups.
Medici's on 57th (1300-something): Italian, with lots of veg*n options and a to die for bakery.
Leona's (53rd and Kimbark): "Family restaurant" with vegan Italian, burgers, middle eastern stuff.
Far East Kitchen (53rd near Lake Park): mostly vegetarian Chinese/Asian
Noodles, Etc (53rd street also): Lots of options..Thai, Chinese, Italian (the noodles are vegan)
Thai55 (55th, near Lake Michigan): One of 4 Thai restaurants on the block...vegan options abound.
I'm sure there are more that I'm failing to recall, but you get the idea, lol. HP = very friendly to herbivores.

If any of you Chicagoans are free at lunch (11:00) tomorrow, feel free to come down to the Hilton and Towers as we gather to give a special hello ;) to President Bush.

Thank you for the good wishes, Valerie...wish you could join us! No post-Meetup plans have been made yet, and as Michael, Tricia, and John's train leaves shortly after 5:00 p.m., there's not a lot of time for us to hang out. Not sure what we're doing, but we'll figure something out!

I will see you all tomorrow at Udubi (sp) Palace. I will be leaving LaGrange around 11ish so I might be a little late. Do I just walk right in or do I need to talk to someone? We are going as Carnelian’s guests.

All you need to do is look for the guy in the olive green coat and pay the cover charge.
