I've seen lots of threads on cats and dogs but none on birds

So I'm starting a thread. I have two parakeets and I adore them. They are birds number four and five that I have owned over the years. My last two died within the last six months. My male bird was ten years old and my female bird was 8 1/2 years old. Miss those two but I'm loving my two new youngins.

No they are not trained to talk.

I used to have a lovebird, Jade. She was the best. She came out of her cage everyday, would eat with the cat out of the same dish. Would eat whatever I was eating and loved to sit on my head. She was so affectionate. I ended up giving her away when I acquired five more cats, totally six and they tormented her endlessly to the point where I could hardly let her out at all. There was a woman who worked at my vet's office who was so happy to take her. She's living in Florida now and gets to fly around free all the time with their other bird.

My daughter has a cockatiel who is very personable. His name is "bird" and he whistles the tune to the Andy Griffith Show and the Adam's family. He also calls my daughter's name, 'Sabrina' and imitates the sound of her brushing her teeth. I just love birds! I am down to four cats now and while I love them to death, if and when the day comes that they are no longer with me, I may opt for another bird before getting another cat. :) I miss my Jade.

I have two cockatiels that I've had for 11-12 years and a senegal parrot. Griffin, the senegal, says "Hi/hey Griffin," but I don't think anyone would be able to guess that's what he's trying to say.

I found a baby starling once and raised him to adulthood does that count?
We named him Twitter and we could not get rid of the little bugger!
I kept trying to set him free he kept flying back into the house , I think he was under the impression he was a pet.
In the end we let him live on our balcony and fed him, he screatched anytime he saw one of us to come see him.
He loved to be petted and to sit in my youngest childs hair :brood:
He liked to eat scrambled eggs ( which just seems so wrong to me) and would sleep in my hanging potted plants.

Dunno what happened to him he was gone one day, I hope he just finaly flew away to find a mate and live his life.
He was "our" bird for 7 months.

That's such a nice story. I'm sure he went off and found a mate.
I inherited 4 baby song thrushes once and fed them and loved them for a couple of weeks. They hung out in the bathroom where they could sh1t on the floor and it was easy to clean up, they had perches and learnt to fly. Two of them died so I cried a lot about that, then released the other two before they met the same fate. I hope they were old enough to feed themselves, they didn't want to be with me anymore and had almost stopped letting me feed them so I had to let them go when I did, I just wish I'd had more time to make sure that they were able to feed themselves. I guess I'll never know what happened. I hope they're alive and well. They were so cute.

We found and raised two muscovy ducklings once, they were so great. One was attaked by a hawk but made a miraculous recovery with the help of her brother and best friend. They loved dandilions, every time I see one now I think of them becasue when we had them if I saw one I would pick it for them. Eventually they got really big and used to sneak into the porch to eat the cat food. Then the male started chasing our dog, and my Mum, so when my parents went to move we knew we'd have to find them a more suitable home. We gave them to a boy who had a whole bunch of ducks and chickens though apparently they preferred to hang out with his goat.

I've cared for budgies, gray-cheeks (Brotogeris) and various other psitticines and galliforms. They're amazing creatures that shouldn't be kept in cages.

They all look the same at this age (they're "teenagers" - their voicing are changing from baby "peeping" to adult "clucking")!
