when i first moved here, i really assumed that there would be some groups like this too. but i tell you, if there are, i've been unable to find them. do you think you could see about finding them?
anyway, CU has a list of all of its student organizations here:
http://www.colorado.edu/studentgroups/
there's nothing about a vegetarian group there and the website of the animal rights group hasn't been updated since 1998.
there's also the CU student union list of clubs here:
http://www-ucsu.colorado.edu/guide/Club_Guide.htm
again, no vegetarian group listed.
maybe a group exists but you'd think it wouldn't be so hard to find it...

I could try. i'll ask some others currently attending, and see if they know anything.

stonecrest - i asked some friends from CU about the campus groups, and you may be right. they said they didnt know of any, but thought there were... which doesnt help much. anyway, they're still looking into it, so i'll keep you posted if anything actually comes up.

Horray for Boulderites!! I am soo glad I found you guys. Im a Sophomore, Psych major here @ CU and Ive been dying to find people. Yea the Sunflower restaurant is a great one, they really support organic food. In case anyone's curious, its on Pearl and 17th. Well I'm currently eating about 90 percent raw, and would really apreciate support from other veggies. Anyways--if anyone wants to get something together I'de love to help out. Just lemme know. Sendin out love from the peaks... :smitten:

orangutan.. ok, i ended up contacting VSC (vegetarian society of CO) and no, there doesn't appear to be a student group at CU. however, there is a group called PAW (partnership for animal welfare) that i was given the contact info for, i emailed them as well. i'm going to be meeting with one of the people from PAW soon, this weekend maybe, to discuss AR and possibly helping them make a website heh.
also, the VSC is having a boulder hike/lunch on october 11th, you should come! here are the details:
Hiking and Lunch
Date: Saturday, October 11th
Please join us as we hike to the top of Mt. Sanitas, and enjoy the beautiful view of Boulder -- we may even get lucky and the leaves will be changing! We will start at 9:00am -- this is a moderate hike, but a great workout as we climb approximately 1300 feet. The hike will take less than two hours, and we are then going to lunch at the all vegetarian restaurant, Masalaa -- 1224 Pennsylvania Ave. For exact details or questions, please email Logan at boulder@vsc.org.
and welcome aboard cujewel! so great to see all of these colorado veggies showing up. you should come to the hike too :)
anyway, i plan on talking to both VSC and PAW about things but i'm still thinking about starting a vegetarian org at CU.. we'll see. from what i've been told, VSC is more of a social organization for vegetarians. not that they don't do activist stuff, but they're just not as involved in it.
alright, i'm done rambling.

Hay everyone! Wow, whatta welcome!! Thanks for the invite, Where is everyone meeting, do you know? I'de like to come on the hike, it looks like it could be fun. Besides, what else is there to do on "Parent's weekend" ?! Ugh, it's always so crazy around here for these events--I like to stay as far away from Pearl as possible! Anyway, if you ever figure out a veggie club here on campus, PLEASE let me know.*or, if you want support in starting one... Well i gotta go to class , but I hope everyone has a great day.

Hey...
The last post on this thread was a while ago but thought I'd add this anyway. There is an AWESOME co-op just off the pearl street mall now. They are all vegetarian and have tons of really affordable stuff. I work right on the mall so I go most days to pick up essentials or snacks.

Hey speaking of Sunflower, I think they supply oils for biofuel. I remember reading about that, as I'm investigating setting up my vw with biofuel. Chalk another one up for Sunflower.

Hey...
Any other folks from Boulder Colorado? I'm hoping to hook up with some others like me (friendship ONLY) for veggie gatherings etc.
I'll be vacationing in Estes Park this June. I've been through there & Rocky Mountain National Park before, but didn't really spend any time there other than driving through. Can anyone recommend the best trails to go on, restaurants to eat at or any other advice?

i live in Aurora, CO which is right outside Denver Proper. the best vegan resturant is Watercourse Foods, woooooot! Alright sorry.
Flower,
Depending on how long you will be visiting there (and how fit you are at high altitude) are many things to see. Most people like to drive trail ridge road. Near the top there is a gift shop and a trail that will take you above 12k feet (nice wooden sign that you can lean on and get a photo). A lot of people have a difficult time getting up the climb (I don't find it a problem though).
If you are interested in trail scenery and small lakes, try the Bear Lake (very popular) area trails. I like Emerald Lake and Nymph Lake personally. There are also awesome sights on the Alberta Falls trail. Alberta Falls itself is easy to get to and can be accessed from the Bear Lake trails. Keep in mind they are also (or at least was) doing construction on the Bear Lake road so you need to park and ride a shuttle bus.
As for food, I have never enjoyed eating in Estes. There is a Subway there but it's rather expensive. I think they sell the garden patty subs (they at least have the veggie delite).
There's also a nice place to eat on the right hand side of the downtown area (sorry I don't remember the name). It has an area (but blocked off from traffic) that you can eat outside. They serve a mean veggie burger (or did three years ago). It's possible they don't have the same menu now. There is also a Safeway (full grocery) in Estes so you can pick up whatever items you might need.
Just remember that you are at high altitude and need plenty of water and may need to rest from time to time on the trail. Don't forget to bring some type of rain gear. The weather is very strange. The sky can be completely blue and within thirty minutes be thundering and a downpour. The rain is very cold too! Even if it rains, it usually clears up in a short amount of time and the sun comes back out.
RMNP is really awesome. I hope you enjoy the trip.
You are welcome to take a look at some of the pictures I have taken there. If you want, I can point the locations out on the map.

I live in Boulder, and I have for a few years now. Great place for veggies, particularly wealthy ones--which I'm not. And so in that respect it sucks, but it's still a neat place to live.

Hey! I live in Colorado too...Highlands Ranch to be exact. I absolutely LOVE Boulder and I want to move there someday and hope to go to Boulder University! Boulder RAWKS! :)
RMH- thanks for the tips. We had a wonderful time & I miss it already! We did all the trails you mentioned- bear lake, nymph lake, dream lake, alberta falls & the hike up to the sign by the gift shop on Trail Ridge Road. We also did cub lake & gem lake.
You're right about the Subway. We spent fifteen bucks on a full & half sub. Yikes! The food wasn't that great at all the places we tried, but it was okay.
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous. I'll have to post some that I took in the album. Lots of elk everywhere, as well as other critters like coyote & marmots.
Boulder was where we stayed three years ago when we visited Colorado. Such a great city. I'm jealous of all you who live there!

Glad there's so many VB users from Colorado :) cool
How big is the market (Boulder)? Any good deals? I've been going to the COOP whenever in town. Prices are better than Wild Oats. I'd much rather spend $$ there than WO.
