Hello my fellow Californian veggies! What are you up to these days?
Weather is good today here (SF Bay Area) - it's the first real summer day I think!

I lived in the Sac area (Davis) for a few years.
I miss all the cheap, wonderful produce. Oh how I long for 10-artichokes-for-a-dollar!
Oh sweet, cheap organic avocados... how I miss thee...
I miss living in the middle of an agricultural wonderland. Though I don't miss those 115 degree summers. ugh.

Yes so many LA veggies - and so few SF veggies. SF is supposed to be the veggie capital of the USA???
Speaking of produce - today was the first day in the year I could do that is one of my chief pastimes in summer: sitting in the garden and eating watermelon. :)

Yeah I am excited because summer is almost here and with it cheap a$$ organic veggies from the SJ farmers market in San Pedro Square. it's only open from 10 to 2 on Fridays though which sucks because I work to far away to get there on my lunch break.
Molly have you been to Ben's on Santa Clara Street? It's a little hole in the wall place but they have the best vegan food hella cheap. The sign says umm i forget but it's something like Tofu Com Chay, which is Vietnamese for vegan fast food. The sign says vegetarian fast food. the guy who owns it Ben is awsome and I can't stop talking about his food.
I also love The White Lotus on Market. Do you know any other yummy vegan places?

Oh, how I miss Cali! I lived in San diego for a few years, and long to go back. But alas! Here I dwell, in the armpit of the US. New Jersey.

Haha. That's pretty funny because Hinesville, Ga (the awful place I'm in at the moment) is called the armpit of the South. :D I think it has something to do with the smell.
I never lived in San Diego, but I did visit it a lot. I miss it so much!
These are the places I've lived in California.
La Mirada
Hemet
Wildomar (Lake Elsinore)
Moreno Valley
Fresno (very briefly)
San Luis Obispo
And I feel like I'm forgetting somewhere...

Hey Erin, my parents live in Riverside....right next to Moreno Valley. :)
Anyways, my current situation is that I live in Santa Barbara. I've been here for five years. And damn this fog we've been getting! June gloom already.
I am moving down to the Irvineish area (not exactly sure where yet) next month.
I love CA, espcailly the weather, the mountains, and the ocean. :)

Lol, you made me think of a running argument with a friend of mine from Walnut Creek in the East Bay. She says SJ is the armpit of California because it stinks here. Granted it's not wonderfull smelling but i wouldn't say it stinks. Anyone else heard of this? I usually tell her Walnut Creek is the appendix of cali. it could be taken out and nobody would really miss it.

Hey, I'm *really* close to Irvine! :) :) Herself mentioned in another thread that there's a great vegan restaurant there -- I'm planning to scope it out & I'll let you know what I think.

Haven't been to either of those places, RedStar, but I'll be sure to check them out. I've been wanting to go to White Lotus for some time, so it's good to know that somebody recommends it.
I don't know any strictly vegan places. I'm lacto-ovo but trying to reduce. I know a place in Mountain View (I live near downtown San Jose but work in Mt. View) that's vegetarian and has at least some vegan dishes:
Garden Fresh Vegetarian Restaurant
Tel: 961-7795 -- 1245 El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040. Lunch and dinner daily. International vegetarian/vegan dishes. No fish, dairy or eggs.
I highly recommend it :)
I'm on the Paul McCartney board, and we're trying to get a few people together to meet at a veggie restaurant some time in June, possibly June 7th. Perhaps we could all meet together? (See the McCartney posts.) (http://mccartney.artscience.net/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41214)
