Hey... we're going to outnumber the folks at the Atlanta gathering! :D

I've heard of The Spot, but I don't remember from whom. It sounds good, too....

i've never been to the spot either, but it sounds good..!

native foods is a good place, but alas, it is tiny and very hard to find a place to park, too...

Yeah, I would have suggested Native Foods but for those very reasons. I go there all the time.

So, wait, are you #7 or what? We're still working on a headcount!

I think I'm going to have to take some initiative here. Everyone who wants to do this thing, why don't you e-mail me at my username @pacbell.net and I will be point person on this so that it gets done. What do you say?

Sounds like a plan. :) Should we hold a date vote and a place vote soon?

epski

Let's get the headcount together, then we'll get a date together, and we can probably pick a place at the same time. It will obviously be a weekend, to prevent serious commute issues.

As far as a date goes...I need to rule out any time between now and August. :( I'm moving and won't will be paying more rent, so I won't be able to afford a restaurant right away. But maybe sometime in mid or late August would be okay. If it's even later than that, it would be better because I'd have time to prepare.

Uh-oh... mid and late August I'll be in Europe.

So, we're talking about September???

Oh. Well, let's stir this up again then.

Mskedi
07-03-03, 08:10 PM
Ooh... if we wait till September my bad haircut will have grown out. :) And aside from that, it will be financially easier since I'll be teaching full-time again and have a paycheck.

I could go sooner -- anytime before August 10th -- but I wouldn't want to if Herself & Mr. Herself couldn't come. :)

September's better for me anyway, and it's cooler then, too.

Mskedi

Yay for September, then. :)

I just ate at a little vegan restaurant in Cerritos... yummy stuff there. It's too small to hold a bunch of people, but it's great if you ever happen to be in town. It's called Vegi Wokery. It is so good! :lick:

Are we talking about meeting in LA then?

Mskedi, I am staying in Lakewood for the next two months, right next door to Cerritos. I just visited the library there two days ago. That place is so unbeleivable that it is worth mentioning here. Have you been to it? I am still in shock. I haven't seen that reastraunt around yet, but I am still getting oriented around here.

Mskedi

CaptainSwab,

You're about 5 minutes from me! :) And does that mean you'll be meeting with us? Yay!

Anyway, you must must must go to Vegi Wokery. It's delish. Here's the address & phone # (if you need directions):

11329 183rd St
Cerritos, CA 90703
(562)809-3928

It's right by the Cerritos mall and it's very small, so I didn't even see it until we parked right in front of it. I wasn't driving, or else I'd be able to give you some landmarks. I had the soy chicken drumsticks as an appetizer, crispy veggie chicken, and the guy I was with had vegetarian orange meat (we shared). It was all amazing. I was seriously thinking about it all day yesterday, so it's likely I'll be there a lot... if you do decide to eat there and you happen to see a little redhead gorging herself, you'll have to say hi. :)

Umm... the Cerritos library? I haven't been.. I don't even think I know where it is. If it's that amazing, I'll have to go see it! My favorite libraries nearby are Main Library in Long Beach and the central library in Huntington Beach. Have you hit those yet?

Oh, and for hamstering (I know you said you haven't had time for it lately, but for when you do...) the track at CSULB isn't too far from you now and it's really comfy on the knees. If you feel like a run, you should check it out. It's almost always open to the public, and even when they do have track classes and such they'll usually let you run the outside lane. They generally only close it off for meets.

Well, while you're here feel free to PM me if you need anything. I've lived here my whole life, so I know the area pretty well. Are you still going to end up settling in the Irvine-ish area? (I think that's where you said... I could be way off.)

CaptainSwab

Yes, I def want to meet with you guys when you do. :)

Thanks for the heads up on the track, its a great idea. I've been looking for good areas to run. And yes, the Cerritos library is that good. Check it out! :D

I think we are going to move to the Costa Mesa area. In fact, we went apartment hunting and found a great deal right there by the triangle center(??? or something along those lines). We wanted to wait until the end of August, but its such a nice area for a good price (compared to everywhere else) so we just might have to take it. :D

I am visiting Newport Beach this coming weekend, we may also drive up towards Santa Monica & Malibu, any suggestions on any restaurants would be greatly appreciated. I just found out of our plans at the last minute. we are flying into LAX.

original plans had us going to Carlsbad on business, just not doing that portion of the trip, but still flying out.

California Governor Faces Recall Vote

By Michael Finnegan, Times Staff Writer

SACRAMENTO — The drive to remove Gov. Gray Davis from office qualified for the ballot Wednesday, clearing the way for an election in September or October on the first-ever California gubernatorial recall.

The certification of the recall for a statewide vote, announced by Secretary of State Kevin Shelley Wednesday evening, sets off a campaign unlike any other in modern American political history. Barring intervention by the California Supreme Court, the Democratic governor will face a popular vote of confidence less than a year after he was re-elected. The recall, endorsed by the state Republican Party, threatens to undermine Democrats' control of the largest state government in the United States.

It's a long article, so I'll just stop quoting it there.

Apparently the new election has to take place between Sept 23 and Oct 7. The budget's such a mess that I don't know who I'd trust in charge of it. :(

Since I'm a state employee, I worked for 4 months without getting paid while the budget was being balanced last year. Funds are currently frozen for the work I'm doing over the next couple weeks, so who knows when I'll see that.

It's late, I'm tired, and I'm rambling rather pointlessly. Do you all have any opinions on what you'd like to see happen here?

epski

I'm thinking about running for Governor... Oh, wait. I can't even balance my own budget!

I cannot believe how screwed up CA's finances are.. and while I don't know what exactly this whole Gray Davis recall is about, if that many people are in an uproar about it he must've done something wrong! Guess maybe I should register to vote huh?

YES!!!

Maybe I should run! :D I balance my budget just fine... Granted, there's not a whole heck of a lot to balance with mine. :(

I think we're going to have a great gathering this Fall. The private room at Sante La Brea is looking more and more attractive. Probably a late breakfast one weekend, so that we can have access to their delicious pancakes and tofu scrambles, or choose lunch instead.

does anyone know of any vegan or vegan friendly places to eat in San Luis Obispo? I'm going to Sycamore Hot Springs for the weekend, and it doesn't look like the chef will be able to accomodate us...such a drag...
