View Full Version : California
Just make sure to wash your fruit, folks.
Looks like I might be headed OUT of California for a long weekend in two or three weeks.
Some friends and I are talking about hitting Arizona and Utah for some natural splendor - Flagstaff, Sedona, Moab...
Woo-hoo! Something to look forward to.

I dunno what age group you like to work with (I far prefer college level), but Orange County pays pretty well for its tutors... there are several programs worth looking into (Title I/No Child Left Behind, AVID, etc)... I might have some contact info if you'd like. (I actually work for a comm. college in LA County, but looked into OC stuff when I thought I'd lose my job w/ budget cuts). PM me if you want.

Hey, anyone wanna take me to lunch on the 19th June or 3rd of July? :D I'm flying into LAX from Brisbane on the 19th and from Spokane on the 3rd, and I have rather long breaks between flights... I have to go to the central library as well but I would love to meet people!

LA to SF is what about 500-600 miles. I know it is that distance from Sacramento to LA

I'd like to be rich and to be able to do such things for fun! :)
p.s. what will you do in the LA library? A lecture?

Ooh, that's ages. :(
Check out some of the books that we can't get in Australia, I also what to find legislation pertaining to wolves and newspaper articles etc... I assume you can find stuff like that in the library?

I did a bit of a search, but just before I leave I'll do a proper organised search...

I could probably manage the first date, assuming I'm not working, but I'm sure to be working July 3rd.
The Los Angeles Public Library catalog is available at www.lapl.org. Good luck!

The Sorjourner restaurant its yummers!!!
Someone else mentioned this restaurant but I've yet to go there....
What's good?
I live in Ventura, just a hop, skip and a jump from Santa Barbara...
Am going camping the weekend before the 4th of July, above Sta Barbara....in some remote area..
I love Calif..........esp all the fruits and veggies.......and since Sta Barbara is so close, I go there frequently.....especially for concerts at the Sta Barb Bowl...saw TOOL, BUSH, No-Doubt, Tori Amos, Third Eye Blind, and some others....
Also LOVE SanDiego, and Mexico, which I hope to visit at least once, maybe twice over the summer....
Ever heard of Bates Beach???????

epski-Hey,I live in Flagstaff so let me know if you have any questions.
I lived in the Sierra Nevadas up until I graduated High School.First I lived up in between Mono Lake and Mammoth then moved to between Fresno and Yosemite. Both places way out in the boonies. In a community of about 20 people(Southern California Edison employee families).I really miss it.I's nice to be back in the trees(Flagstaff)after living in the desert for a few years in Laughlin,NV.But I still am not used to living around so many people.Definetly couldn't live in a big city like S.F. or L.A. Yikes!!
Glimmer: You ever hang out at Macy's? I LOVE that place!
I'm considering retiring a couple of decades from now in either the Sierras (I wouldn't mind getting more info from you on that), Boulder, Flagstaff, or Sedona (but I haven't been to Sedona yet -- I just add that one because everyone I know who's been says I'll love it there)

I loved Sedona!
you should check out Durango, Colorado. vegan friendly and the people are very friendly. one of the coolest things about durango is the people bring their companion animals everywhere with them. if i had petted every dog i saw i would have never gotten anywhere.:D
Durango sounds cool, too, but how does it compare to Boulder?
this is very short notice, but i thought i'd mention it anyway!
for people in the los angeles/santa monica area!
i work with a small, professional, non-profit theatre in Santa Monica who is currently trying to raise funds to purchase their space! part of this is having benefit performances! most of the shows produced there are original creative works by the Co-Artistic Directors. Tomorrow night (Sat, June 7 but also on Sunday, the 8th) there is a benefit that could really use filling up! The show is called "Dear Gabby: the confessions of an Over-Achiever". it is a very good show, a teenage dramedy as some called it, but really, it is good for people of all ages to see. I truly recommend it, and if you are in the area, and are interested PLEASE come! or if you want more info PM me!
The info is:
Santa Monica Playhouse
to make a reservation: 310-394-9779, ext 1
located at: 1211 4th street between Arizona and Wilshire
the show is at 7:30pm. Tickets range in price from $20-50, since it is a benefit performance. If anyone is interested in coming, but cannot afford that price, PM me, and i'm sure we can work it out..
There is also a small buffet afterwards.
If you can't make it, but are interested in theatre, or helping, please let me know! there will be future performances of different things..
they also have a website: santamonicaplayhouse.com
i hope this message makes sense since i am extremely tired! i'll be happy to answer questions...
thank you!
Thanks for the invite. I wish you good luck!
I wish I had the money. I'm an actor myself, so...
