I can't quite think of a Chinese veggie place near Santa Monica, but if you haven't tried Happy Family, you will have to. Very popular place.

indeed it is, but i'm on the california side. only about 45- 60 minutes from nevada.
tahoe's swell. but too damn touristy in the city. lots of wilderness though. that's where i spend my time. some good natty food stores though. and a tasty vegan friendly place in south lake. ohh la la.

been there once and it was great! unfortunately, parking's a bear...


oh Yeah, Good Karma Cafe on venice beach is awesome if you haven't been there yet. The chocolate soft serve is rad.

Is anyone going to the World Veg Festival in SF on Sat 9/29? It appears a group of us from the veg?n meet up in Fresno will be going that day. I was hoping to meet someone from here on that day.

I came across a menu for an organic vegetarian/vegan cafe in Huntington Beach and wanted to pass the info on.

They have Juices/smoothies/teas & coffees

Salads: Un-chicken & zucchini salad and more

Mock Tuna, Italian subs and more

Nut burger

soup, Pizza sounds vegan and the spinach quiche does too.

I've never eaten here, but they catered desserts for my work one day and left a menu.

This week, a broad coalition, including animal protection groups, veterinarians, environmentalists, and food safety advocates, begins collecting signatures to put an anti-cruelty initiative on the California ballot for November 2008.

Californians for Humane Farms will collect more than 650,000 signatures to place the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act on the general election ballot. The measure will help prevent cruelty to nearly 20 million animals confined in industrial factory farms in California, as well as protect California's environment.

The Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act provides basic protections requiring that animals be able to turn around and extend their limbs. It will prevent the use of inhumane factory farming practices such as keeping animals confined in small crates or cages—specifically, veal crates for calves, battery cages for egg-laying hens, and gestation crates for breeding pigs.

What sort of suggestions would you like for San Jose?

There are several vegetarian restaurants and many vegetarian friendly restaurants spread throughout San Jose and the San Jose area. I live downtown and the Vegetarian House restaurant on Santa Clara at 12th is about six blocks from my house. It has a wide variety of vegetarian dishes. It's associated with some sort of religious group, but I have never felt pressured to learn more about their religion or been asked to support them other than visiting the restaurant.

Where will you be staying in San Jose and will you have a car or will you be using public transportation? San Jose is a fairly big city, so there are lots of different areas. Also some of my favorite restaurants are outside of San Jose itself.

There are also a fair number of things to do in San Jose and in the area. I'd be happy to make some suggestions if you have specific interests.
