I won't be able to make it to San Diego, but I'd be up for dinner at an L.A. hour at Busaba Thai Vegetarian Kitchen, like around 7:30/8pm or something.

Actually, I looked at the menu, and it is very similar to the other vegan-type places, except for all the vegetarian options. Maybe the presentation and decor are much different, but other than a tempeh appetizer, about 80% of the menu or more remind me of Vegan Glory, Vegan Plate, and California Vegan.

I really need to get my restaurant concept off the ground... *grumble, grumble*

codemonkey,
I didn't know you were in SD otherwise I would have met up with you

I'm moving in like 48 hours so now it is a bit late.

What area do you live in. I can give you some recommendations.

By the way, I used to go to kung food like 2x per week for like 3 months. Then i got burnt out on it :) Overall it is pretty good though :vebo:

I'm in Rancho Bernardo. I've heard there's a vegetarian place called Sipz in Poway but all the reviews I read have been either REALLY good or REALLY bad. So I'm a little scared to try it.

Since I'm new to the boards, any other San Francisco Bay Area veggies around? I'm in the South Bay. :hi:

The only good vegetarian restaurant I know of is "Greens" in the City. Anyone have recommendations for other good vegetarian restaurants in the Bay Area? I haven't been too adventurous lately. I know there are plenty of places that will offer vegetarian dishes, but it's always nice to know of more vegetarian restaurants. :) I'm not picky for types of food. Any ethnic variety will do. :hungry:

What? You don't know about Millennium restaurant? (http://www.millenniumrestaurant.com/) :surprised

When my sister and I visited SF last year, we had dinner there one night (we actually stayed in the hotel where the restaurant is located), and it was a really memorable experience. I highly recommend it to everybody! :hungry:

I had been hearing about Millennium for years, how amazing it was. When I went to SF for the first time about a year ago I finally had the chance to try it out. It was really good, but not as great as everyone had made it out to be. Maybe my pallet isn't as sophisticated as it needs to be to properly appreciate it. But I did like all the vegan drinks I got, like white russians and other assorted girly "creme" drinks. :)

Ok, I'm definitely going to eat there. And I will bring my boyfriend along. :) and he will like it!! He's not opposed to me becoming vegetarian. So he can forgo the meat for a meal. Thank god he's not like my father was. Couldn't wrestle that man's porkchops away from him. :-/

Thanks, Amy!!! :hamster: I'm excited to go there now! Dinner date on Friday!! Woohoo!

Double-posting to comment... that if they have vegan drinks, I'm going there just to try them!!! :sunny: Sounds awesome.

I remember going to Green's twice. The first time was amazing. The second time was eh. So maybe it was just your palette being finicky that day you went to Millennium, Kevin. That or the chefs were just off that day. That can happen even in the best of restaurants, unfortunately. :-/
But thanks for your review! I'll keep both in mind when I go. :)

LOL! Hi, Duck, where are you moving from? :hi: The "South Bay" is the San Jose area, and anywhere south of the Bay. LOL. Everything north of San Francisco is the "North Bay", and SF itself... is considered, well... San Francisco. hehe. You'll see when you move here. ;)

Be sure to explore the City and have fun doing it! I love that place. I particularly like North Beach, and Golden Gate Park. They have paddle boating on this small(ish) man made lake there in the Park. It's awesome. There are turtles and ducks and a huge waterfall. I LOVE the turtles!!

There's a Monet Exhibit at the Legion of Honor going on right now. I'll be there Saturday checking it out! :D Link, for the curious: http://www.thinker.org/legion/

How exciting to be moving! Welcome to the Bay Area!! :sunny:

I'm moving from San Diego :)

Funny thing is that golden gate park is less than 1 block from me, I'm so excited, I don't even know what is there :)

The ducks and the turtles are at north beach? is that correct? where is that at exactly?

yeah, i'm pretty excited. I'm driving up tomorrow hopefully early enough to beat the crazy traffic :hump:

My boyfriend drove us around SF last time we were there, so I'm sure the ducks and turtles were in Golden Gate Park... Oh, and he just now told me the it was called "Stow Lake" and was indeed in GG Park.

North Beach, on the other side of the City, is chock full of Italian restaurants and good cafes (haven't looked for good cafes that serve soy lattes...), and the famous Stinking Rose garlic-intense restaurant. I've actually never had a chance to go there... So I'm not sure if they're veggie-friendly.

I'm terrible at geography. :) I found a link to the districts of the City here: http://www.rentalguide.com/sf-map.html
You can actually see areas of water in GG Park on this map. That round area of water is Stow Lake.

Have fun!! Good luck with the move. And driving. Much like driving in LA, it's not so bad once you get used to it.

Okay. So. L.A. 7:30. No date. No location...

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest Ethiopian. Rahel (http://www.vegguide.org/vendor/view.html?vendor_id=2991)'s on Fairfax (follow the link, which also includes a link to Rahel's own site). It's real near the 10 fwy for those of you coming from further away.

As far as a date, how soon are we thinking? Next week? Is everyone free that soon? I can make it this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, as long as we decide on one of those days rather soon.

Rahels would be great. They make up containers of stuff that are sold at the co-op. Last week I bought a container of red lentils and one of yellow pea rolls wrapped in teff. Awesomely good!

If you're pressed for time, the Sacramento airport has a lot of options if you're in terminal A (the one with SW airlines).

I say Thursday, 7:30, Rahel. Does that work for everyone?

I've never been to Rahel. I always end up going to Messob next door and get their vegetarian plate. It's so good I've never had the need to go anywhere else. It will be nice to try it.
