View Full Version : California
San Francisco has a reputation for being a very veg-friendly city, so you should not have any problem finding a veg or veg-friendly place to eat wherever you are in the city. (I think). And near the U of C especially.
ETA: I strongly suggest you send a PM to Walter; he lives in SF and could tell you better than I. There are other San Franciscans on VB but I can't remember exactly who they are right now. :(

Ah, you know your Roman gods/godesses. Awesome. I woulda thought the name Pomona would attract more Veg*ns. :(
Welcome Augustus and your fruit trees. :)
My son currently attends CalPoly Pomona, and it looks like his sister will be joining him there next year... Sadly, neither of them are vegetarians!

So can someone fill me in, any get togethers in SoCal?

We had one last September...after that, we started posting about another one, but nothing happened. I suggest that if you're really interested in attending a SoCal VBers meetup, you create a new thread about it and get the ball rolling. Suggest a veg*an restaurant, for starters. :)

Sounds good. I don't really know of any places to go though, when I go to a resturant I just order the things without meat. I really just want to go to a meet up because I wanna meet cute veg*n girls. :D
I used to attend dinners organized by the Vegetarian Dining Club here in SoCal. It's been a while since I've been to one, but the last I heard they were doing weeknight dinners every week, and the OC and LA dinners on different Sundays each month. You can contact Randy Ellis at (323) 953-0543 or Ken Ziff at (310) 396-2826 to find out what events are being planned in what areas. All of the dinners are vegan. I tried a lot of different restaurants that I normally wouldn't have found myself, and I got to meet some nice veg*ns too.

I thought I would bump up the California thread. I just moved to Davis from the Bay Area. Where are the best veggie restaurants around the Sacramento Area?
If you haven't yet check out the Davis CO-OP. I think it is the best place in town for vegan shopping.
As for restaurants I haven't had much success. The Davis wiki lists a few places. I think the delt of venus is suppose to be pretty good. I've tried their tofu scramble once. It is just coffee shop type food. Not sure where to go for dinner style eating. If you find a place let me know.
Here is the link to the davis wiki vegan page

I have my newish VegLA group over at groups.yahoo.com/group/vegla.
I invited folks there to join me for a $7 vegan brunch downtown at Tierra Cafe this past Saturday. You all are welcome to join. I like having it as part of a group, so I'm notified by e-mail whenever people post about Veg stuff going on in Los Angeles. Still not a very active group, but I think it could become so.
BTW, the brunch was delicious!

Hi there,
I'm expecting a child very soon and my wife and I are looking for a veg-friendly pediatrician in the San Fernando/Conejo Valley area.
Can anyone suggest someone?
We've already looked into the two most popular (Paul Fleiss and Jay Gordon), but we're hoping to find someone closer to home.
Thank you!
Brian
I don't have any kids (human) and I don't live in that area, but my sister lives in Calabasas. I can ask her if she knows of any.

I live in Orange County, 5 miles from the beach. We have been here for almost two years, prior to that Eastern Washington (UGGGGHHHHH) for 18 months, prior to THAT the Bay Area for 7 years. In Washington, I faltered and started eating meat again. When we came to SoCal, not knowing if we were going to stay, I completely lost the taste for meat. I hoped that moving here would help me to stay veggie (for good this time).
Southern California is very veg friendly, so you shouldn't have any problem staying veg.

Depends on your people of choice ofcourse, I've met some real a-holes with anti veggie views.
I suspect she was referring to the number of veg and veg-friendly restaurants, as well as the farmers' markets and grocery stores that stock well for vegetarians and vegans. We all recognize that there are idiots and jerks everywhere (gosh, yes, even here in cyberspace!). :o

Hey people! i already did this in the n00bs section, but, its more relevant here.
I'm michael. i am 19 and i live in Los Angeles. ive been veg since late 2000, vegan since 2003. I would love to find more veg restaurants, meet more veg people, etc.
I play in an experimental punk band called the Le Nouns. I used to do Food Not Bombs in the Valley and then it died while i was in SF for a year :(
Hi Michael! :hi:
We just had a SoCal meetup. The next one might be in O.C. You're welcome to join us. We''ll have lunch or dinner at a nice veg restaurant (the O.C. veggies will pick one out) and perhaps play some mini golf, or do some bowling, and just have a roarin' time. :D

awesome! OC is a liiiittle farther than i like to drive (for money, environmental, and boredom reasons), but if i could ride with someone else and split the gas cost with them or something, i'd looove to go. keep me updated! :)
P.S. your caption under your avatar (going to marry a carrot) rules!

Modesto is getting more springy:)
Maybe a carpool to OC would be fun. I don't think the wife and I would drive down that far by ourselves, realistically.
