Well, it's here. Are there NO Angelenos going to this thing? I skipped tonight, but I have a weekend pass, so I will pretty much be at the Westin LAX from tomorrow morning through Sunday night, other than to come home and catch a few Zs.
If anyone here is planning to attend, PM me.

Editors' Note: On this page in our July, 2004, issue we published a review of Vegan Tokyo Teriyaki Restaurant in Los Angeles. We are sorry to report that this excellent restaurant has closed its doors. They will be missed.
Oh damn! I never even got to eat there!
Oh, sorry I didn't mention this when it happened over a month ago!
I ate there all the time, as it was the only vegan restaurant within shouting distance of my 2nd job. It was pretty good, cheap food, but it wasn't convenient enough for the average person to go if he or she didn't live or go to school in the area, so I guess they couldn't afford to keep it open.
Fortunately, new vegan restaurants are opening all the time. Three of the newer restaurants:
Madeleine Bistro (http://www.madeleinebistro.com)
Vegan Glory (http://www.vegguide.org/vendor/view.mhtml?vendor_id=1523)
Leaf (leafcuisine.com)
And California Vegan opened another location, this time in West L.A.

Does anyone know of a veg*n restaurant close to me? I live in Riverside county/ Inland Empire. I've never been to one (can't find one) but want to. :)

Mmm... vegan thai food!! :)
My bf's aunt started a vegan thai food business over in Thailand and she brought over cans and bottles of the stuff and no one could tell the difference between hers and the meat (in fact, I couldn't eat the fish ones because they were too much like fish).
It was super spicy, though. It took me about an hour to get through a full serving and I was crying and sniffing by the end, but it was soooo good. :)
I've gotten pretty good and ordering my Thai food vegan at the local Thai restaurants, but it'd be nice to not always have to ask for modifications. I just might drag my boyfriend out there this weekend...

Hey I'd be glad to. Events are my speciality! I LOVE planning stuff, that's why I asked, but I just didn't wanna take away someone else's job. :D
Where do these things usually take place?
When I registered last December, some people were talking about a SoCal meetup, but it never materialized. I think they had at least one get together before, but a long time ago. So we could pretty much start from scratch.

I posted in the Veggie Patch about it. Let's get the party started! :)

Bless you! I was hoping someone who enjoyed this sort of thing would run with it. I posted a few convenient suggestions in your veggie patch thread...
I just got this email and I thought other L.A. area VBers might be interested.
You are Invited to an Evening with
The Buffalo Field Campaign, August 28
Dear Amy,
During the winter, buffalo in Yellowstone National Park migrate outside the park's boundaries in search of food. When they cross into the state of Montana, they enter a conflict zone where politics clash with their survival needs.
The Buffalo Field Campaign is the only group working in the field 365 days a year to protect the last wild, free-roaming buffalo herd. Please join them on August 28 for a multimedia presentation, a silent auction, and yummy vegetarian cuisine. You can hear first-hand accounts and watch compelling video footage from the frontlines.
Date: Sunday, August 28, 2005
Time: 7:30 p.m.
Where: Canoga-Owensmouth Historical Museum
Address: 7248 Owensmouth Avenue, Canoga Park, CA 91303
(North of Sherman Way, between Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Canoga Ave.)
Suggested Donation: $15*
R.S.V.P.: (818) 341-2461 or buffaloevent@worldnet.att.net
*All donations to The Buffalo Field Campaign go to their frontline efforts to protect the last wild buffalo herd and their ecosystem.

Hey folks.
I'm moving to Los Angeles (Santa Monica) from NYC on 8/11, and I was wondering if anyone new of any good restaurants in that area (I won't have a car, so I'm quite limited)? Also, any advice on things to do/places to meet people would be much appreciated. Hopefully all of you are doing well :)
<3
We're planning a CA meetup at a veggie restaurant and I'm pretty sure we picked the Real Food Daily in Santa Monica. :) There's a thread about it here somewhere... if I find it before I fall asleep, I'll link it, otherwise I'm pretty sure it's in the Veggie Patch and it's clearly labeled. :)
Santa Monica's one of my favorite parts of town. Go to vegguide.org for all the L.A. restaurants in your area. Lucky devil. I don't like how far it is from center city (I'm in Hollywood - more convenient), but it's a nice place to live.
Welcome, and please come to our dinner when we set the post-Labor Day date.

I'm pleased with all the vegan businesses in L.A., too. I just wish the city wasn't so big that I can't make it to over half of them in any sort of convenient way. :(
