Anyone in Northern California...
I am planning a trip on Oct. 16th up to Apple Hill....
Let me know if anyone is interested.
Apple hill is a farming community, that have shops, and such to sell their apples/and other products. Great place to go, wine tasting, micro beer, family farms.
Plan on having a picnic, and lots of fun.

Hey everybody-
My dad agreed to drive me to los angeles for a meetup. The problem is, all the meetups going on involve people I don't know. So if anybody wants to help me plan a los angeles veggieboards meetup, that would be cool. I am aiming towards november.
Anyone up for an anti-Turkey Day?

I'm from bakersfield, but willing to go to los angeles for a meetup.
This is a blatant request for last minute help.
One of the little noticed animal abuse issues is the inept breeding and callous sale to uninformed "pet owners" of large exotic birds (parrots) here in on the west coast, especially in California. It's a monumental epidemic of neglect and profoundly poor care of one of the smartest, most affectionate and dedicated of animals that humans call "pets".
We have taken in hundreds of birds for the last 12 years, repaired their hysteria or physical damage, trained new "human companions" and found the Parrots a better home. These birds can no longer be returned to the wild or be set free as they will not live.
We have averaged about 6 new birds a month. We do not breed then nor trade in birds.
To more effectively deal with this nightmare of human folly we have also produced an outreach to elementary school kids that teachers them not only about birds, but about animal behavior and responsibility to their care should you "own" one.
We do exceptionally good work and now have about 40 birds in permanent sanctuary, that were so damaged that they are now completely dependent on their caretakers. All of us love these otherwise sweet and cosmically gental creatures.
This past summer we have had a hard time of it. We lost several of our revenue sources, had major facility repairs and were vandalized. To make up for the losses we've been seeking grants and donations.
We are now three months overdue on our mortage and on Nov 1 it'll be four. Aside from the Bank being real A-holes about it all, they will foreclose which is to be expected.
We are still trying to raise about $1,200, then there will be the whole November 1 thing with no grants yet in sight.
We are asking for help. No big donations are necessary, just you're average person expressing whatever degree of support they could. It'll make a big difference in keeping the Center going if people would just consider helping or passing this email onto a friend who might also help.
We have a website that can tell you all about what we do.
If for no other reason we have information on parrots and their proper care that we'd love to share with you.
Please come and see us at:

I like in Fresno... It's in Cali's Central Valley
I read this entire thread.
I'm a native Angeleno, now living in Santa Monica. I noticed that nobody in the L.A. area mentioned Kay n' Dave's on 26th Street, about half a block south of San Vicente. It may not be the greatest restaurant around, but I like it.
Where is everybody? How come nobody has posted in this thread since 12/19?
Don't you know? We Californians are too self-absorbed to congregate in this thread. ;)
I've been to Kay n' Dave's. It's not exactly vegan. I had something I was able to make vegan and it was okay. Would rather go a number of other places in Santa Monica, like RFD, P.F. Chang's, et al.
We really do need to have a Los Angeles meet-up. There's over a dozen of us out here.
Maybe it's time to start stirring the pot again. New year's resolution?

Ok So I don't live in Cali anymore but wanted to know if anyone lived near Napa, where I moved from?

Yeah, I forgot about that. I'm lacto-ovo myself so I have no problem finding something to eat at Kay and Dave's. But I will certainly eat vegan whenever the opportunity presents itself.
And yup, a meet-up sounds like fun!

I went to Tokyo Teriyaki near USC's Campus on Figueroa and it was so good everyone should try it if you live in LA and haven't yet. It is similar to California Vegan but Japanese instead of Thai. Really good.

After I read your post I googled Tokyo Teriyaki. Here's the first match:

What did you order?
And why can't there be a vegan Japanese restaurant on the Westside? :(
Why the heck don't we get together, Angelenos? We're being embarrassed by those New Yorkers. ;)
I'm going to probably go to Vegan Glory before a Spirit Awards screening of "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" tonight. Anyone wanna meet up there with me and my wife?
I have room for a guest to come with me to "Motorcycle Diaries," but I'm getting out of here late as it is, thanks to VB (!), as it begins at 2:30pm. So forget that.
I'll have to remember to try and wrangle one of you for another screening when my wife is working and can't go with me.

I ordered the orange chicken w/gyoza and spring rolls and the husband ordered the teriyaki chicken plate. They take phone in orders if you are every out that way and wanted to pick it up on your way home.

Is anyone taking any of Tanya classes that she is offering the next couple of months? Has anyone taken one before? I am thinking about taking one since I don't cook at all and sometimes the dh wants a night off. All three of them sound fantastic.
-Cosmo
If I lived a bit closer than Hollywood, I'd pop in for fun one time, maybe, but I don't usually do the cooking, soooo. Man, do I ever love Native Foods, though.

Do any of you happen to know of any houses for rent around the Hemet area that will allow several animals (6 dogs and 11 cats) and is on fenced property? Being within walking distance to public transportation is a huge plus too.
I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Thanks!
