Hey everyone! You may have seem my post in the patch (which was actually placed and then the situation quickly changed, so it is wrong now...) but I am moving to Cali in July! I am very excited. I know, this is a long way away... but oh well I am still excited. I will be moving into the LA area (Manhattan Beach) and going to El Camino College. Any good veg places around there that I should hit?

Vegan Express is far away from Manhattan Beach, unfortunately. But you should be close to The Spot. Look it up at happycow.net.

Actually I had an awesome plan but I gave it up for an even better opportunity!

I am now going to be a nanny for a family in Manhattan Beach that would be a hundred times more flexible with my schedule for school than the original family I was going to work for. Plus I would not need to go until July, whereas the other family would need me in May, and I would not get to work at my summer camp at all, which would have been very disappointing. They have two little girls, one in kindergarten next year and one who is 1. Long story which would probably be boring to read, but in the end this is a much better opportunity.

Not sure if you've been here yet.. but this has a pretty good list of veggie restaurants.

Here's the LA link, http://www.vegdining.com/GetRestList.cfm?rgk=NA-US-CA-LA

San Diego (my hometown) has a bunch of veggie restaurants too, click here, http://www.vegdining.com/GetRestList.cfm?rgk=NA-US-CA then "Elsewhere in California" and keep hitting next until you get to San Diego. I've been to Galoka and Eatopia Express. Galoka has REALLY good "somosa" (sp??), definitely give that a try if you're in the area.

Strawberry, Manhattan Beach is nice :). I lived in Redondo for a few years, and, man...I really miss it. I miss running on the beach!

Anyway, in Hermosa, there is "The Spot," which boasts being the oldest vegan restaurant in L.A. It's old style -- lots of grains and sauces, burgers --and casual. It's off of..ummm...second street??? Heh, it's close to the beach; I'm sure it shouldn't be hard to find.
Also, the "Green Temple" in Redondo is great. There's one in Los Feliz...shoot, Ican't think of the name right now! But these three are close to Manhattan area.

Do you love L.A.? :)

There used to be a great restaurant in Sacramento,CA several years ago called, "Eat Your Vegetables". It was an all-you-can-eat veg*n buffet....super good, with all kinds of veggie dishes, soups, muffins....and on and on. They closed. :(
Does anyone know of a restaurant in the Sacramento valley area like "Eat Your Vegetables"? Or another good restaurant for Veg*ns in that area? I don't live in Sacramento, but I sometimes go there for visits with friends and business.
Thanks,
Veg

Actually the craziness in all of this is that I have never been to California at all. However, from my research and whatnot I think I will like it where I am going. If not, the I guess I will go somewhere else. Heck, I'm young and have no reason to lay down roots just yet, might as well expand my horizons!

I live in Sacramento, and would be willing to help you out. Feel free to give me a PM, while I do a lil research for you. There are several really good restaurants I go to from time to time. Vegan vs. Vegetarian may be in question, but I can look into it for you.

Okay, my flight and hotel are booked. I will be arriving in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 28th at around 11:45AM. I'm going to take the shuttle straight to my hotel and try to check in early and drop off my baggage, and then I'd like to try to do lunch at Native Foods, since I looked up their menu and it looks like a cool place!

A friend of mine who is also going on the Japan tour will be with me, and if any of you LA VBers want to meet me for lunch or dinner that day, I'd love to see you. I'll be flying out of Los Angeles to Narita Airport in Tokyo on Monday, March 29th in the morning.

PM me if you want to meet up! ^_^

I don't know if you received the PM that I sent to you, but if you would list the restaurants that you recommend, I would appreciate it very much. Are there vegan restaurants that you know about? And also, "combo" vegetarian and vegan restaurants, as some members of my family are vegetarians, and I am vegan.
Thanks,
Veg

Hey guys..is it true that it's expensive to live in San Fransisco? My husband and I are thinking of moving there and I want to pick a few people's brains on the subject. We live in Orange County now, and we're tired of the dirty air, scary drivers, impatient people, and lots of agressive arguments geared towards us for just mentioning vegtarianism/veganism. Plus, there's more places for us to eat out there....and we hear there is a very low crime rate. The only thing holding us back is the expensiveness factor. Any thoughts or advice?

Yeah, it's expensive. Think New York rent on the West Coast.

I was always told it was worse than New York... Did a quick salary compairison, without proper values.. it was listed as more expensive in San Franscisco then New York... But this might give you an idea:

There you go. Even worse. I had a feeling, but I knew it was frequently compared with New York, so go figure.

Uggg. We have been living in Orange County since July and we can't stand it. We can't wait to move either.

Yes it is rather pricey to live in the Bay Area, you should ask Oatmeal, he could give you an idea. :)

Thank you guys. Although this doesn't give me much hope, it does give me a reality check. Grrrrrrr. It feels so hopeless. Being stuck in a place like this once you realise it could be better is not a good feeling.
