Does anyone go to alissa cohen's site?
I used to go but the board has been changing and I really feel it has changed to a bad way. I lurk sometimes but never post anymore.
Is there a nother good raw food board around?

I go to RFT and post occasionally. I liked it when I first started out on there, but I'm more of a lurker on there these days.

It's that board and this one as far as what raw ones I go to. I'd like to find one that's as active as the RFT board or at least has the potential to be.

I really wish I could find another RF board. Alissa's kind of lost its zest; it is now some kind of alternative health / yuppie board?? IMO

I've been there but I find the nimbus of exploitation distasteful.

Yes, I do. That wasn't sarcasm :)

That site is hard for anyone who doesn't subscribe to the cult of "Alissa"...her lackeys attack you like rabid-raw-piranhas.

I am a infrequent member (different username) and honestly, it's kind of scary over there lol. I don't know if I've ever seen a larger collection of bad advice and misinformation in one place.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good people too. Folks at local raw potlucks are mostly friendly, but exploiters are there too. I once had someone all over me for suggesting that "water ionizers" are a joke.

And don't get me started on sungazing :worried:

Staring into the sun. Apparently there's some guy down in California who preaches that it's good for you if you stand barefoot on dirt for the duration.

To me it is really scary that so much medical advice is given out so freely.
And when a person says "you really need to go see a doctor".
It is dismissed as detox, or people jump on top and say "I have never been to a doctor and I am fine", or "I haven't been in 16 years".
I hope some of those people come to there senses before somone gets hurt!
You cant diagnose someone over the net and w/o medical training!:dizzy:

While I'll certainly agree that eating raw fruits and vegetables is good for humans, I do balk at those who assert that going 100% fanatically raw will cure *any* ailment. I know one person in particular, who calls himself after a constellation, who I'm tempted to hand a cracker with the words "Here you go, Polly".

"I haven't been in 16 years".

Actually, it's 26 years since I've been to one.

There are a few members there that really get under my skin, but I think it's a pretty neat place with a lot of support in going raw. Many there pretty helpful and friendly for the most part.

Some of you still go over there eventhough you don't like it there? Why is that?

I have visited some raw lists and usually if what they're saying or doing is not to my liking, I just leave and don't visit there anymore. I just wonder why you still go over there if you don't like the people or Alissa Cohen or what happens there.

My only thing is I think that her site is getting too big and it's not as cozy as it used to be. That was what I liked most about it.

I go there and e-mail advice to new members. When they ask medical questions (I wont post; i email) I will tell them flat out you will get much advise about detox and such; but sometimes a good doctor needs to be trusted.
Especially when it comes to children. I have a list of vegan doctor I give out (3 raw docs) if they ask.

That site is a accident waiting to happen; and if a new mom decided to follow some of there crazy advise. IE feed a new born 8tbs of olive oil for collic in a 24 hour period. There WILL be a lawsuit in the future.

The members tend to run off people who advocate a good doctor.

About the comment about not going to the doc in 26 years; thats fine if you believe that; I get a checkup about every 2 years. (genetics are funny things ,a healthy diet wont keep you from some diseases)
But I am a firm believer that children need to go once a year.
They have growing bodies and need supervision on any diet.

People for years have given "old wives" remedies for stuff like grandmas and aunts. But I see what your saying.

But if people are gullible enough to come to a online list and seek the advice, then it's on them whether they follow it or not not the people giving the advice. I mean, why do they do that anyway? Why do they go to strangers on internet lists asking for medical advice in the first place?

People are only sharing what has either worked for them or what they might have read or heard may work and they're only suggestions. The whole internet is full of such advice and it's not limited to that site.

.. none of it actually naming these toxins or a mechanism by which fasting for a week will cause them to rise through one's skin.

Well, one thing I have noticed that raw food talk has that other lists don't have is that they don't sit around bashing other lists or people on those lists. I see so much of that on most of the other raw lists and that is quite sad.

On that note, I'll leave this place so that I don't get too caught up into the negativity of this discussion.

No, not boards, but they do bash people who dont eat raw.
but then again this board bashes people who eat meat.
All boards do this is some fashion.

I don't believe, I live it. I am who I am speaking of and I've not been to a doctor in 26 years.

RFT does not "bash" people who eat meat. Show me where that's done and who is doing it.

That board was created for one express purpose ~ to support people who wish to live the raw food lifestyle. That simple. People who come there wanting support for paleo, macro or anything else just need to go where that is supported.
