Wow, glad there's an Arizona board. I live in Tempe....and I need advice and recommendations on eating veg when going out. Where do you like to go/favorite foods eating out? The only one that is a total no brainer to me is Olive Garden (I'm only going lacto ovo veg for now). I was there for my birthday and I never realized how much of their menu is already veg or could easily be.

RedWolf90

I live right next to phoenix.
Angel, There aren't many real "sit down" resturants that i can think of that serve veg'n food, Olive Garden is the only one that comes to mind.
BajaFresh and Fazoli's are "semi fast food" places that have many veg'n options. I like BajaFresh, they serve real "sit down resturant" style food in big servings, at inexpensive prices.

Multiple Locations
Want to contact a fast food restaurant and suggest vegan options? Go to North American Vegetarian Society's Vegetarian Express Campaign and scroll down to get the addresses and phone numbers of national fast food chains.

Baja Fresh
The beans and rice and do not contain any chicken broth. The guacamole does contain dairy products but the tortillas do not have any dairy.

Brueggers Bagels
All of their bagels are vegan, except for the honey wheat and the sun dried tomato (contains cheese).

Burger King
Burger King has become the first fast-food chain to introduce a veggie burger in all its outlets nationwide. This is a HUGE step forward for animal rights and a massive boon to vegetarianism. Burger King has just become the most widespread source of vegetarian food in the country. Please visit Burger King and pick one up - but be sure to order it without the mayo. (You can ask them to microwave it so that it is not cooked on the same grill as the meat burgers.) Also, the fries are cooked in vegetable oil.

Carlos O'Brien's Mexican Food Restaurants
I have been alerted that their tortillas contain lard.

Chiptole
"Their tortillas, black beans, rice, guacamole and salsas (hot, medium corn and mild) are vegan. They actually run some in-store ads stating that these items are 100% animal ingredient free, which I find very refreshing and should be commended. I also, know the manager of the GIlbert location and he assured me of this as well." Thanks to Jeremiah McElwee for this info!

Chompy's
I have been alerted that they use whey in their bagels.

Einstein's Bagels
- Bagels w/ PBJ
- Fruit
- Chips
- Red beans & rice soup

Filberto's
I have been alerted that the beans contain lard and the rice contains chicken stock.

Olive Garden
I have been alerted that they use eggs in their pasta.

Panda Express
None of their items are vegetarian! Everything is cooked with chicken broth. Please contact them and ask them to offer vegetarian options. You can call them toll-free at (800) 877-8988 or to submit an e-mail comment, click here.

Papa John's Pizza
a cheese-less veggie pizza is vegan. The garlic dipping contains lecithin and lactic acid from unspecified sources. Click here for locations.

Pei Wei - this info was verified by their corporate chef
The "Dark Sauce" is made with chicken stock and chicken base in the recipe. (The Pad Thai Sauce makes an excellent substitution for Kung Pao Style dishes.) The sauces below can be substituted in other dishes to make them vegan. There is no chicken stock on the wok line, they use a vegetable stock. Dishes that would be vegetarian with vegetables and tofu:
Spring Rolls, Edamame, Pad Thai (modify when ordering "without eggs"), Blazing Noodles - as they are, Orange Peel - modify when ordering "without Kung Pao Sauce", Hoisin Explosion, Asian Coconut Curry, Soba - Miso, Sweet and Sour, Teriyaki

Rubio's Baja Grill
vegan "Health-Mex" burrito with beans and rice. Watch out for the nonfat chipotle white sauce and the salsa "fresca" - both contain dairy. The guacamole is vegan, though.

Subway
the white bread is vegan, but the wheat bread contains honey. (Check individual location ingredients to be sure.)

Taco Bell
the beans and tostada/taco shells are vegan, the flour tortillas contain mono- and diglycerides from an unspecified source, but are otherwise vegan.

Tokyo Express - 7 locations in the Phoenix area
vegan steamed veggie rice bowl, a few vegan sushi rolls and inari (cheap, too)

"The products on our menu that are listed (we use the Chinese symbol for vegetable on the menu for all of our vegetarian items) as vegetarian contain no animal products...this includes the new products we just added...in the past we had a couple of items like the vegetable lettuce wrap that were not designated as vegetarian either because they contained chicken stock or oyster sauce...recently we have replaced chicken stock with a vegetable stock and developed a vegetarian oyster sauce...all of our products that are listed as vegetation are in fact vegetarian."

Very cool to see a AZ board here!!

By the way, for anyone that like's spicy curry dishes, I Highly recommend Malee's on Main! Very good food! They also understand what Vegan means, (which is a comfort to myself) they have all different sauces and juices and even a differenct grill they use when you request a vegan dish! (have a friend that works there and got the full "vegan" tour 8) )

I live very close to this place and eat there so much they know my damn name lol

Nice list though! I'm gonna have to check some of these other place's out!

Go support your local co-op! Gentle Strength Cooperative is on University and Ash, just one block west of Mill Ave. in Tempe.

They make all sorts of vegan friendly pastries and foods, and have a cafe with great stuff. And a deli with terrific sandwiches, made fresh every morning. And a very aware staff.

Go! Now! And become a member too...you can volunteer a few hours a week, and get 25% off the store.

:D

That's awesome :) I just moved here about 10 months ago for college. I go to UAT which is at 48th ST & Baseline Rd. How do you like living here? I like it a lot, it's a big change from where I'm from originally(Michigan). It's hella hot in the summer though, don't know how anyone can stand it  I try to do everything I need to do outside at night in the summer LOL.

Wow. I live on 48th St. and Southern! hehe.

I do like living here a lot, but I agree. It's too bloody hot!!!

The nights have been nice lately. :)

I will be attending a college in the Fall. I am still undecided! I may ease into things with community college.
