Is it just me, or is Phoenix VERY unfriendly to vegetarians and vegans? even more so to vegans, I am now finding out. Somebody save me and point me toward a veg restaraunt. I need to go to Trader Joe's now, at least they have food I can eat.

I don't live in AZ, but I visit there quite a bit. I've found it to be pretty veggie friendly. Tempe has lots of restaurant options for vegetarians, but I can't remember any of the names. Sorry!! There are a buch of health food stores as well. Sprouts and Sunflower Market are my favorites.

I don't understand how anyone can like it here! I hate it, but that's just me. Anyway, I live in Western AZ, about 30-45 minutes away from Phoenix. Is anyone else out here? I seriously have yet to see a vegan or vegetarian restaurant, so I would love it if anyone could direct me someplace that isn't forever away...

Is anyone having trouble getting those veggie patties at Subway's in Tucson anymore? There were a couple I knew of but it seems they don't carry them anymore.

Hey guys,

I'm going to Scottsdale for Reading Week and I'm wondering if there are any nearby vegan-friendly grocery stores, like Whole Foods, or restaurants. I'll have a car so I'll be able to get into Phoenix as well. Thanks!

There is a Whole Foods in Tempe and one in Phoenix (I think). I know there is a Wild Oats in Scottsdale and I'm pretty sure there is a Sprouts also. Check out their websites to see if any are near where you will be staying.

I don't really care for it here either. But.....I don't want to live where it snows and since I'm not rich enough to afford California or Hawaii, I guess I'm stuck here.

Don't know how I missed this earlier!

Vegan: Lovin' Spoonfuls
Vegetarian: Govinda's, Casbah Tea House
Veggie friendly: Guilin Chinese, Yoshimatsu (Japanese), Zemam's (Ethiopian), La Indita (Mexican), Maya Quetzal (Guatamalan), any Indian or Middle Eastern restaurant in town (make sure you specify no dairy or ghee in Indian food)

I hope this info isn't coming too late. Are you visiting or do you live here?

Yes, it's too bad that Gentle Strength Co-op closed. That's where I was able to buy organic chia seeds in bulk. Now I'm ordering chia seeds online.

I heard that Whole Foods on Baseline & Rural will be closing in about three years and relocating to University & Ash.

There is a new Whole Foods opening this year (August 2007) on Ray & 101.

We could use a new Whole Foods... The reason I say that is because the one on Baseline and Rural is crap compared to a couple I have been to in Henderson, NV, Illinois, and San Francisco! There are so many wonderful products. I am jealous when I go to Whole Foods in other places. :(

BTW, Green is the BOMB!

I didn't know people lived at the Grand Canyon...

And I've been here for 20 years. I'm a dork.

If you've gone to the canyon on a vacation, then did u wonder where all the people who work in the giftshops & restaurants lived? Well the canyon is so far away from everywhere that we all live right in the national park so we're close to work.
