Is a plain cheese pizza actually bad for you? I know it's not the "healthiest" meal choice. However, I eat zero fast food, fried food, or soda. My Mom despises cooking, so often put in the situation of ordering a cheese pizza. I can not search do to the format of the PC I am on, sorry if they has been similar topics to this, as I am sure there has been. I am also only 16, and my friends when we go somewhere really do not want to go somewhere and get tofu, mainly because most of them do no even know what in the world it is. Thanks a bunch

its not gonna hurt you now and again :D but overall its not really a health food, theres a lot of saturated animal fat in cheese (but lots of protein and calcium too!!) and they usually do dodgy things to pizza bases...the place near us uses disgustingly crap flour, and a lot of oil.i usually feel sick pretty quickly.

Don't sweat it. Enjoy being young, and maybe get some veggies on that pizza!

agree--
also, you can ask them to go light on the cheese--some places just put WAY too much imo...

Yup. That's what I say: Don't fret and top it off with veggies. I like olives, hot peppers (green chile), and atrichokes a lot.

Any milk products are, honestly, bad for you. If you get pizza sauce that doesn't contain meat stock, then that, the crust, and cooked toppings are probably neutral at worst.

One slice of a medium cheese pizza has 8 grams of fat, half of it saturated, so half a medium pizza clocks in at 32 grams of fat and over 800 calories (per Papa John's website). Not so bad for a once in a while treat but not really something you want to be consuming as a regular dietary staple.
If you find yourself eating cheese pizza "often" you might want to consider learning to cook some basic things. At 16 you're certainly old enough to take responsibility for feeding yourself, beyond ordering take out.

When I go out to eat, I'm usually awkward, because I get really anoyed when the only veggie options are slathered in a cheese or a cream sauce. So at pizza places, like they said above, I just ask them to hold the cheese, smile, and ask for extra veggies.
Scarey the first time, but it gets easier. And maybe, once in a while, you could guilt your friends into going somewhere that you want to eat - it isn't like they'd HAVE to eat tofu.
Good luck. :)

Nothing is "bad" for you in moderation...enjoy your pizza once in a while! I definitely do :)

Papa John's and many other fast food chains make sauces that are meat stock free. In fact Pizza Hut is the only one I know that does put it in...
If you want to go with cheese, nothing wrong with it once in a while, if your body can handle it - I like the option of having them "go light" on the cheese. And definitely pile on every veggie you can...
However, if you're adventurous, a cheese-free pizza piled with all the types of veggies they have, is very easy to order.
I have been doing it since I was 14 (which was a L-O-N-G time ago) and never had a pizza place question it or even look at me funny. Most places will even give me EXTRA veggies :lick:...
Nutritionally, a cheese-free pizza with veggies is a really good option.
Here's the nutrition facts from a local place we go to:
1/2 of a 12-inch, super-veggie pizza (brocolli, spinich, tomatos, artichoke hearts, onions, roasted garlic, kalamata olives, mushrooms, peppers, eggplant, fresh basil leaves and pine nuts plus tomato sauce and olive oil) with no cheese:
Calories 325
Protein 19 g
Carbohydrates 32 g
Fat 8 g
Vitamin C 60 mg
Vitamin A 30 mg
Calcium 330 mg
Iron 23 mg
Sodium 680 mg
Fiber 18 g
YUM! I may have to order pizza tonight...

Well as was mentioned previously, dairy and its derivatives are not "healthy" though its certainly not going to kill you every once in a while. Personally if I was ordering pizza out on any regular basis I would ask them to hold the cheese (they will) and top it with extra veggies. Pizza can be a healthy and nutritious meal, it just depends on how you treat it. I make pizza on a weekly basis, every friday night, with my own home made, 100% whole wheat dough, veganrella cheese and TONS of veggies (1 lb of brocolli, 1 very large vidalia onion, 1 zuchinni, 1 yellow squash, 1 can of artichoke hearts, a couple handfuls of sun dried tomatoes, 12oz roasted red peppers, and several cups of cremini/****ake/wild mushrooms). Learn to cook now and you can enjoy making quality, healthy food for a life time (plus wowing your friends and family with wonderful food).
I make my own pizza at home and there is nothing unhealthy about it:guitar:
For ordering out pizza I personalythink it is fine as long as you eat it in moderation, do you like veggies added to it?
I perfer my pizza's with whole grain crusts and any veggie I have laying around on top of it with a a little cheese and olive oil brushing :lick:
Made properly it is a very heathly meal with veggies, good fats like olive oil and a grain.
pizza is good! You can whip up one yourself with veggies and low fat cheese and ww crust if you were gonna have it that often?!

a tip for ordering pizza with no cheese: i like to ask for extra sauce--sometimes they don't put enough and without the cheese it dries up...

I think the suggestions for homemade pizza are great, but keep in mind, the OP mentioned they often are in the situation of going out with freinds too - sorta difficult to make homemade pizza in that situation...

Oh yeah:lol:
Bring your own that'll get the anti-vegetarian club started!

I'm enrolled in thier "VIP" program (place 2 orders, get a free large), so I regularlly order a hand-tossed veggie lovers. I've never heard of there being meat in the sauce before and am interested in knowing about this!
PS: You might look into ordering on-line. It's so much easier to click the "extra sauce" and "no cheese" buttons and order everything exactly how you want it, than it is to try and explain it all over the phone to someone. Plus then you can see all the coupons that are available.

This kind of thinking has led to a continent filled with obese, sick people saying how they enjoy things like cheese pizza "in moderation".
In reality, "moderation" is something most of these people don't know the meaning of.
It's very hard to "moderate" one's consumption of addictive foods like pizza, which is loaded with fat, high glycemic simple carbs & sodium when you get it from a typical pizza place.
Check out the book Fat Land for a scary look at how North Americans are eating.
The "everything in moderation" theory just doesn't work if you want to be in peak health for a long time.

ONE slice of pizza has 18 grams of fiber, 19 grams of protein, 8 grams of fat and only 32 grams of carbohydrate??? My God! I have never seen such a thing! I would eat a slice of that pizza everyday (and feed it to my daughter and the giant :D ) if there were such a thing around here. What kind of place is this? Do they have a website? Hpw do they get so much nutrition on a single slice of pizza?

I may be mistaken, but I think Tofu and spprouts meant literally one half of a pizza not a slice!
Yeah wouldn't that be great though!

Yeah, half a pizza with only 325 calories is a steal.
PS: I just visited the CPK website to see how much their pizzas cost in nutritional terms, and I found the following "fun fact:"
"In an average month, CPK guests eat 15,245 pounds of pepperoni, 278,400 pounds of mozzarella cheese and 13,982 gallons of pizza sauce."
This blew me away, not just because of the amount of cheese eaten, but also because who the hell goes to CPK for a pepperoni pizza?? Isn't the whole point of CPK to get some kind of wacky pizza? Anyway, they don't have nutrition information on the site. Like most fast food places, they don't want the truth about their food to be easy to find. :-/
