This is my first time sprouting. My lentils have a tiny sprout but that is about it, and I have been watering, rinsing and draining for about 4 days. How long will the sprouts actually get and how do you know they are ready to ingest?

Any thoughts?

I stopped after five days. My sprouts are about an inch long. I had them today with lunch, but they tasted a little bitter. I think I remember seeing something somewhere that if you leave them too long they get bitter. I also think I had too many in the jar. I'm going to try it again with less lentils and see what happens.

Hey kristie-
Did you try soaking the lentils for 8-12 hours? It doesn't take mine that long to start sprouting...3 days at the most. Also, the temperature plays a big part. (70-80 degrees seems to be ideal for me). I usually eat my sprouts when they're short- they are more nutrient-packed!

You only have to sprout them for a couple days. The tails don't need to be very long.

can you buy just any old dried lentils? Or do they have to be from a certain brand or something? Sorry, new at this too! ;)

They have to be raw or they will not sprout.

I just sprouted mung beans and adzuki beans. They came out great. I'm so excited! :)

interestingly enough...most lentil, even the packaged ones will sprout. I usually just buy mine in bulk from my local HFS, but you can get the ones in the grocery store and most will sprout just the same...
