Hi

I would like to get into yoga and pilates to strengthen and tone up my body, but due to my erratic schedule and travelling, can't commit to a regular class. I've taken a couple of classes in both, and they seem like something I would enjoy.

Can anyone recommend DVDs that are good for beginners?

Thanks

Yes yes yes! I'm a workout/yoga DVD junkie!!! love working out at home more than going to the gym. For yoga I would recommend the following depending on the yoga style that you like. By the way I LOVE YOGA!!!!!!

- Hatha yoga (gentle/intermediate) - Ali MacGraw - Yoga Mind & Body with Eric Shiffmann. Lovely music, great scenery, great instructions... Love this one!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000DI88C/qid=1147795646/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/102-6908571-0656900?n=130

- Power yoga (intermediate/advance) - This is a great workout and it's more challenging - Bryan Kest Power Yoga

I also have a bunch of Rodney Yee but i find all the DVD's the same. They are pretty good though!

I actually ordered 2 DVD's from amazon last Friday, and I'm expecting them tomorrow (I can't wait). I will let you know if I like them. They are Yoga Shatki with Shiva Rea and two of the Fat Free Yoga (this is Kundalini Yoga with Ana Brett). I can't wait to try these 3 as they have great reviews!!!!!!!!

As far as Pilates.... I have a couple but I don't think they are that great so I won't recommend them.

Good luck!!!! :o

For Pilates, I recommend The Method Pilates http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000067J05/ref=cm_aya_asin.title/104-6689592-9363908?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=130

or Pick Your Spot Pilates

Pilates:
Ana Caban: Beginning Mat Workout (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006TPE38/qid=1147802880/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-9805376-5146534?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130)
Hilary Burnett's Pilates Basics (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0006TPE38/qid=1147802880/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-9805376-5146534?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130)
These are both good instructors who are clear and not annoyingly perky. They have more DVDs when you get more advanced. They are also the traditional pilates exercises in the traditional order. A lot of the DVDs out there that say Pilates don't really follow Joseph Pilates' principals, not that they aren't good exercise, but it is a bit misleading.

Classical Pilates: The Complete Mat Workout Series (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000069YWP/qid=1147803263/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/102-9805376-5146534?s=dvd&v=glance&n=130)
I also like this one because it moves very quickly and you get a good workout in 15 minutes. You will need to learn the exercises better first though.

As far as yoga, I am just not very good at it so I'm partial to the Yoga Zone beginners series and Sara Ivanhoe (except the Dummies ones, I hate Dummies workout dvds in general). These are gentle and good for beginners.

I agree with CarbLover's opinion of Ana Caban. I love her DVDs -- she's not too perky or anything. I bought a DVD boxset containing three DVDs and a band for $30 at Target (I hate online shopping lol).
