I've been veg for almost a year and a half now, and just recently it seems that I'm forgetting things more often then I should and its really depressing me. My friends think I don't listen when they tell me things, hence me not being able to recall things so well anymore! But that is definitely not the case.
Does diet affect memory? I googled and found that lack of B12 can cause a decrease in memory, so I started to take those along with the multivitamin.
Also, i'm only 16 so thats why the whole memory thing is more confusing... I don't think this is anything like early onset-alzheimers. (incredibly early, I might add.)
anything to add?

From "the Doctor's Complete Guide to Vitamins and Minerals"

Some studies suggest that Choline plays some role in the brain processes involved in learning and memory that decline with age, perhaps through its role in brain chemical production. Memory enhancement occurred in study participants taking choline and choline-like medications.

You can supplement choline using Lecithin (also known as phosphatidylcholine, of which choline is a part) granules in the amount of 2 to 4 heaping tablespoons of lecithin twice daily.

Oh and Lecithin granules are vegan. I have some at my house at the moment.

Here are some more possibilities: http://www.intellihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/31393/31398/347135.html?d=dmtContent

I would advise you to take a complete B vitamin. Like Freeda's vegan B-complex

What is the stress level in your life? That can effect memory. Low blood calcium can effect memory. Does it seem to go in cycles or is it a steady level of loss?

How is your omega-3 intake (ie flax)? I believe that the DHA component of omega-3 is very important for your brain.

right now its just pretty much declining. some days i'll have a good day and remember lots of stuff. I think its only a short-term memory thing cause I can remember things from long ago but not something someone said to me about 3 minutes from when I try/need to recall it.

I am taking for granted you are female. If so, does your memory cycle with your period? You might want to chart it.

I noticed my memory going a little before I went veg. It happens with age and as the chemical makeup of you being shifts (you know, less estrogen and such). That's what I believe anyhow.

I think this is true. :)

I had a great memory, photographic even, before I had my daughter. Its not been quite as good since. :-/

OH and I also became allergic to gold after pregnancy. :stinkeye:
I dunno what is up with that. I had to have my wedding ring dipped so I didn't break out in rash and itch like mad. So there is something to chemistry changes. Perhaps you are in growth spurt or something.

It's good you made sure to have a reliable source of B12. Though memory loss could be possible other symtoms of damaged peripheral nerves would be much more common. I go with Life2K, stress is probably more probable :)

ok first of all you are only 16, i highly doubt this is early onset alzheimers. make sure to take a good mulit b like someone suggested.
also have you ever had problems with attention span, staying focused in school, staying on topic?
you also sound like you have a bit of add. given your age that seems more likely.
