And a short shower is better than bathing in the tub.

You'll use less water = less hot water = less gas/electricity for heating water.

HAH!! - never thought of it that way. I've been without commercial TV for 6 years (We have Armed Forces Network - no commercials allowed) - and, now that I think about it, I do have less junk.

I find that having no money helps keep you from accumulating too much junk. :)

Yes but a hot bath is a wonderfully pleasurable experience. Think about slowly immersing yourself, inch by inch, into the the hot bath, from toe to calf to ... to shoulders, to neck, to head. It is worth the extra expense and extra use of resources. Especially when you at last get to your neck and head -- it "head-orgasmic." I wouldn't want to live without my hot baths.

I try not to waste the water. So I take short showers, I don't leave the water running when brushing my teeth etc. unless its needed. My family doesn't recycle but when I move out of the house I will more then likely recycle, but I reuse things and try not to make a lot of waste. I also walk or ride my bike when travelling short distances instead of driving. And sometimes I pick up the trash on the side of the road to throw away.

Thats what I do and I might try the other ideas too =).

I agree with soilman, a bath can be a truly blissful experience. I save mine for special occasions, but I hate not being able to bath if I feel that need.

I don't know what all ya'll humidities are like, but I live in subtropical zone, and much prefer having my windows down on a hot day, as going from 35C heat with 90% humidity to aircon is unhealthy. Whereas the breeziness of open windows is divine. Aircon does get used but nowhere near as much as open windows, AND, we consume less fuel with windows open than with aircon on. You guys can sprout aerodynamics at me all you want :) but the true proof for me is in how often we have to fill the car up...

Air-con sends me to sleep.... in buildings and cars. The latter being very dangerous when I drive a car with a/c (which is rare).

If you want to reduce the use of electricity, then don't use the standby mode.

Appliances use more power than you think on standby.

I disconnect everything I don't use.

The tv, the stereo, the computer.....

I don't know about driving with the windows up.. I think the AC would waste more then the wind resistance would. And besides.. I like the feeling of wind in my face on a warm day! :D

For those of you who live with other people .. I've found that if you get those big plastic bins for your recycling it encourages your family to not just toss everything in the trash can. It's a small expense that is really worth it in the long run.

Also .. this was a big one for me.. if you're not reading your magazines and newspapers then CANCEL THEM! It makes for less junk in your house.. less money spent and something else you don't have to worry about recycling!
