But I'm not too thrilled....

A couple friends are moving to Florida to retire and can't take their cat. Months ago we offered to take her if they couldn't find another home, and well, just our luck, looks like we get her. The offer was made before we acquired someone else's horse...so now we'll have a horse and a cat we didn't really expect...

She is a very very adorable cat though, named Hermione. It's just, we aren't set up for cats anymore...

Oh well, we'll figure something out.....

A cat is much easier than a horse. :p That is very nice of you. Is it indoor or outdoor cat? I am sure you will love the kitty and give it a good home.

I'm sure taking in the cat is better than dumping her in a shelter.

Ludi, you have a heart as big as all outdoors.

Ludi, your karma must be huge right now. :)

Thank you. I just hope I can reconcile my husband to this, he's already grumpy enough about the horse!

She's an indoor-outdoor cat, and I don't know what we're going to do about that...

I'm sure you'll work something out. That's so nice of you to take it in! GL!

We're worried she'll try to return to her old home, since she has no attachment to us or our place.

I would say keep her indoor for now. She needs to learn you guys and explore her new territories. Do not let her out, just because she is used to being outside sometimes. That is a way to lose her fast.

Just give her some time and she will adjust.

Getting her microchipped may be a good thing, too.

Why can't they take her. That's a pretty stupid reason if you ask me.

Just tell them you changed your mind, if you don't want the cat.

Um, these jerkwads gave up their cat in the first place, I wouldn't reccomend giving her back.

I am fostering a kitten whose sister and herself were found on a friends porch in a paper bag...

People will surprise you with their lack of compassion for living creatures.

Makes me want to :junk:

But Prima (our foster kitten) is doing very well... She is going to her new home soon where she will be the only cat and get to lavish in all the aattention she can stand.

They haven't got the cat yet have they?

I just don't think people should make it so easy for people abandon their pets worry free. It's enabling.

Well, she said they are moving to a retirement home. Most of those don't allow pets.

I hope I never have to give up my pets when I'm old.

ETA: read it again. "moving there to retire". i read it wrong. bah.

Ludi - don't let the cat out for *at least* 2 weeks, if not more. Maybe never (but that depends on if the area you live in is safe for cats).

keenkitty - it sounds like it's too late now, but it's too bad the kitten and her sister couldn't have been adopted out together - there's a good chance they would have been lifelong friends. I really hate it when humans break up animal families.

I'm distressed they can't keep the cat too. But they are very old (80+) and moving into a condo to be near their son. And of course, the condo doesn't accept cats. They tried to give the cat to their grandkids, but the mom won't allow it because she has the two older children and twin babies and I guess the grandkids aren't very responsible. :(

I fell in love with this kitty when I met her, she is so cute and cuddly. I just hope she has predictable bathroom habits, being an indoor-outdoor cat, you never know....
