One tiny step forward...

I sometimes glance at what our local schools here in Alabama are serving the kids for lunch. It's the same cr*p that I ate at school back when I was a kid (except we didn't know it was cr*p back then). :wall:

Im glad they are finally making a change. I was excited when they put the salad bar in at my highschool. :) All it takes is people pushing for a cause! :)

Wow that's so awesome!! I just sent the link to the director of food services for our cafeteria. We already got a vegetarian menu here at my high school through petitions and meetings.

Do you guys like drinking soymilk plain, like a glass of it? I never liked drinking cows milk plain either. I usually just add soymilk to cereal. Its is good that they are giving an option. just wondering.

The school lunches at the school where I intern are SO FOUL! They often are void of nutritional value. They have this one lunch called "pizza dunkers" where they serve 2 white bread breadsticks with about 2 tbsp of marinara sauce. Lovely. Or "Super Nacho Tacos" are popular, where they put a pile of tortilla chips down, put some mystery meat on them and cheese. There is the lettuce option, but few take it. Blechhhhh

Whoa, that's EXACTLY what my school serves. They must be running on the same food service. It's digusting and even heart-breaking to see kids gulping it down. :sealed:

I love soymilk with or without cereal (at least certain brands...VitaSoy is my favorite, Silk is fine, but I don't like Eden Soy). I used to only go for vanilla, but my son got me on to original, nudging me that it has less sugar and is healthier. I'm so proud of him for thinking this way and am glad to have made the switch.

As for the school cafeteria...every positive step is a positive step. Cheers!

Apperantly refined junk food is A OK as long as it has added iron to it

I usually just brought my own lunches, by college there was enough vegetarian options around. However I am aware that the lunches seem to have changed very little since I was high school in this area. I look at the newspaper sometimes to see what they serve. Seems like cheese pizza is still the vegetarian option.

In my school (pre high school) we had snack time. Every one brought in their own mug and we got peanut butter on crackers ( allegries were not as common back then because a peanut allergy never came up in our school) and a glass of milk in our own mug.
We'd wash all the mugs in the dishwasher and then they'd be stored at the school at year for snack time.
