Ok, I always chuck the stale bread on the lawn for the birds rather than throwing it out but recently I've noticed that at least one of the neighbourhood cats (and possibly my cat) is eating some of the bread. I don't know how much. So I have a bunch of questions.

Is there anything wrong with feeding bread to birds?
(my family has just always done it, I just never questioned it before)

Is there anything wrong with cats eating bread, or is it a situation of a little is ok. If so should I stop doing it based on the fact that I don't know how much they're eating?

I like feeding the birds, especially in winter when they're hungry and in spring when they have babies but I don't want to hurt any kitties either.

Bread fills birds up without giving them any of the nutrients they need. It's better to feed them seeds.

That's good to know. I've always thrown old bread out on the lawn too, as well as leftover popcorn. Like you, my family has always done it so I never thought twice about it. Now I know not to do that anymore.
