View Full Version : Sort of a warning, I made the neighbors cat sick.

Due to my shoulder injury I have been applying large amounts of hot and cold creme from Brooks drugs.
Ok so the visiting N.kitty is here (long story) and she licks my fingers which I guess has residues of hot and cold creme on them. I had no idea the smell would be an attraction. Then she starts foaming at the mouth and spitting. So I'm like un oh...I got the n.kitty sick.
She was doing that a while but seemed fine this morning.
So I guess if you are treating muscle injuries, keep your hands away from any companion animals who might be attracted to the smell and lick it off your fingers.

OH thanks for posting this. My cat loves that smell too and she licks it off my knee or wherever it is applied.
My cat has these wierd addictions to smells, like earwax (gross I know, but I my brother found that out), burt's bees lip mint lipbalm, restaurant mints, vicks, and mint mouthwash.
I was talking to her the other day after using mouthwash and she tried to lick inside my mouth. Eew.

If you get rats, they seem to be attracted to toothpaste products because they'll try and groom your teeth.
My mom used to have a cat that went crazy over the mint smell. He would actually attack you! It was like it had some drug like power over him.
And so many medicinals are minty. Good reminder.
Then she starts foaming at the mouth and spitting.
Maybe it has a bad aftertaste.
Yep. My cat sniffs at my mouth after I brush my teeth with peppermint-flavored tooth paste.

my cat used to be ADDICTED to Icy Hot!
I'd put it on my back and he would try to pull the cover off me to lick it off, but he never foamed at the mouth :/

My cat is crazy for icy hot and burts bees lip balm too. I have to be careful about it when he's around.
The foaming thing is just cause it tastes terrible. I would suspect no long term ills from the cat.

That's good because I felt bad.

My cats like anti-itch cream and lotion. They lick it off of my legs, and I always yell at them when they do that.

Maybe cats like mint so much because catnip is in the mint family and they can smell a similarity?
My strange cat likes the smell of pepper. She will go nuts over those little paper packets you get from restaurants and stuff. She sits on them and guards them... if you try to take them away from her, she growls at you!

Heh, one of my rats (who passed recently) used to groom my mouth regardless of whether I had just brushed or if I was stinky. All my others could care less about my mouth, but Ghoulie would grab my lips with his little hands and pry my mouth open... then he would lick and nip at my teeth and grab at my lip and tongue rings and try to take them with him. Crazy rats and their fascination for shiney things... Ghoulie also really liked to groom hair... he would take a strand, give it a few licks and then run his little fingers through my hair, as if combing it. He was silly. He also did manicures. I think he was a beautician in a past life.

Yep, I agree. I have a rodentist as well. *lol*
He also likes to chew and "clean" my hair, ears, nails, and eyebrow ring. Little b-rat is bad about taking my hair band out before he grooms me too.

My mice just like to sit in my hair, but I don't think they are grooming me.
