Well, I did my first 5K at the spare of the moment this morning! We had a able set-up and we gave away prizes for the gym. Little did I know I was registered. So....I RAN :)
Obviously I train very intensely, mostly functional training and intense cardio classes, but I rarely do anything on the treadmill. When I do anything on the treadmill it is interval training.
By my suprise my time was 24:21! I was happy as POO!
This was fun and I am going to do a bunch more this summer!
Anybody out there love running? Today's place was very scenic.

24:21?? That's terrific! I trained for a year for my first 5K, and my best time was only 27:32.

when I got to the first mile the guy was reading off the time and he 8:08 when I passed. I was like..damn..this is cool!
Anyway, I really like the fresh air, the scenic run and most importantly!- Metallica jammin' in my cd player :)

Where are you at now with your time?

Congratulations! That is QUITE respectable time! Imagine what you might manage WITH training! :D
I am a serious running addict. I run 60 mpw and that is not nearly enough. If I didn't have to work, the only thing that would keep me off the road is the crippling soreness I'd experience from running waaaay too much. ;) And even that would go away after a while... I think some of us might have been greyhounds in a previous life.

Thank you!
Obviously you love to run? What is it you like most about running? Maybe if I had a different perspective I would run more often.
Honestly I find it boring..but again.... if helped with Metallica blasting in my ears :guitar:

Unfortuantely, my time is in the toilet. I ended up with patellofemoral syndrome; basically I tried to increase my time too quickly. I was off running for a month, and have run twice in the past 10 days. I want to run my next
5K in August. I miss it so much!

I think I like how meditative it is, for one thing. I usually run about 10 miles a day, and when I'm alone and unreachable by my Real Life (I do run outside, but very early in the morning, so there's really no one out there but me) for that long a lot of thoughts have a chance to surface. It gets me up and outside early in the morning when everything is fresh and the world is quiet. Then there's the primalness of having your heart beat hard and efficiently, pumping your blood - your body essentially working at optimal level, doing exactly what it was built to do. There's such a long list of things I love about it. The rhythmic beat of my feet on the ground, the naturalness of it. Sometimes when I'm sleepy in the morning and I get out and start running, I feel like I'm being rocked - very surreal. Then, when I finish, I'm so wonderfully tired - like when I was a little kid and I just played myself into the ground and went home to fall down on the floor and sleep. Siiighhh...sometimes don't know if there's room in my life for a significant other... ;)

Thanks for the info...
Now that it is getting nice out, I think i will start to run outside in the am.
I just spent $35,000 on 6 new treadmills, but I not only would be in one place and going nowhere, but I am still at the gym and it is hard to workout there without being bothered with questions. The best way for me to run and not be around the gym, obviously will be for me to run outside.
I am going to give it a shot and see how I like it. We have plenty of places in the area which are scenic, so I will give it an attempt. Great way to burn calories and fat!

it's funny, but my one employer did that a few weeks ago. she doesn't do anything except yoga and cardio classes (spinning and step mostly--very intensely). she decided she wanted to run a 5k. so she signed up for one (and didn't tell anyone) and when she showed up for it it was a 5 mile! she ran it anyway and loved it. This past weekend she did the MS 5k in downtown philly, and she wants to do a lot more.

pretty cool, right?

Very Cool!

The best part is just being able to do it. That is what I like most about it. Now, I really want to do more because I know it can be done.

I love to run! I like being outside in the morning when the only other people around are joggers and dog walkers. I'm not very fast, and I'm not competitive at all, but I get a rush when I realize that I can run 5 km without stopping. I could NEVER run on a dreadmill, though. It would become a huge, awful chore for me.

I did a 5km Run for the Animals this weekend, and my time was 44 mins. I could have done better, but my friend I was running with had a sore knee. so we had to walk.
I love running though, just not competitively.

I agree with the competitive part....
It was really nice chilling out and running on a beautiful Saturday morning.
Competition! People need to chill! There were so many ADULTS there warming up and running around about an hour before the race..gettting psyched up!
For a friken fundraiser! WIN WIN WIN ...Will never figure it out
