I was wondering, since one of these days I'd love to dye my hair an unnatural colour...just because:P

Does anyone know where I could find a vegan bleachkit and hair dye (in colours like purple/pink/blue etc.) in erm England?

Since I've tried looking for it in the Netherlands but so far have only found vegan hair dye..but not bleach kits (my hair's a dark brown>_<)...
And I've tried looking for it on the internet, couldn't find any shops in England, though maybe I wasn't looking good enough.

Did find some on veganessentials.com but I hope to make that my last resort since shipping is quite expensive and a couple of other reasons:/

The only vegan hair die I know of is lemon juice. You do have to be careful with it, but you can lighten your hair very much with a little lemon juice and sunshine. If you end up with lemon juice anywhere else on your body, you'll end up with major blisters though. Lemon Juice also works if you can put it on in strips. You can have dark strips and blond strips. Be a zebra if you want... Just a thought.

i think "RAW" and "SPECIAL EFFECTS" dyes are vegan.

i think they sell bleach kits also.

raw is good, but dont buy pink, pink doesnt work, AT ALL its utter crap.

special effects is well..special, it dyes practically everything after you dye it, the back of your shirt, your pillow when you go to sleep, etc. but it's super vibrant and lasts a long time.

http://haircrazy.info/index.php?sitemap=1 theres a good site, i think she has a store too. i *KNOW* for sure that raw hair dye is vegan, it says it right on the bottle. this appears to be in the UK too, so yay.

Spaz got to it before me. haircrazy.com has the best deals on hairdye in the UK (even the ever so elusive SFX) and shipping's cheap.
Full ingredient disclosures are on the website.

Thanks everyone:)

Ehm I'm not sure lemon juice'd get my hair 'bleach blond' heh but I can always save it for when I'm absolutely desperate for a new colour^_^

I'll have to keep that website in mind then..
I thought I found some vegan hair dye in London (Manic Panic), 'cause I had checked the brand's website and it said their products are 'guaranteed vegan'..and I asked the girl at the store about it and she was all: Yup! ALLLLL our make up is vegan.

I was so excited about it that I forgot to check the ingredients myself:whip:
Which I'm not going to let happen again 'cause...
it turns out the hairdye contains BEESWAX>_<

I'm not sure what their definition of 'vegan' is:think:

I'm already in Holland so I can't exactly go back to the store either:\

But yeah, next time I'll steer clear of 'Manic Panic' and just focus on 'RAW' and 'Special Effects'!

Should I send Manic Panic an e-mail about the 'cera alba' thingy?

Special Effects advocate here... if it's available through the website that was mentioned earlier, GET IT. I've been using it for years and in my experiences, Special Effects has outshined Manic Panic by a long shot (MP colors tend to come out "muddy" on my hair even when it's highly bleached and they fade very unevenly and pastel-ly.. I wonder if it's got to do with that beeswax, hmmm.. lol) and Raw is a joke. Special Effect's bleach kits are decent as well.

This is me a few years ago with a SFX color called Hot Lava, freshly done over bleached.

This is the b/f and I a few years ago (don't mind the faces): him, with Electric Blue (a few weeks of fading) and me with Atomic Pink, which had also a few weeks of fading. Both over bleached.

The thing I especially like about SFX is that the colors actually get brighter and more brilliant for a few weeks before they start to fade (provided you bleach first!). Two weeks ago, I used Deep Purple and at first it was so dark, it almost looked black. I've washed my hair probably 7 or 8 times since then and the purple just gets more brilliant every time. I give it another 3 weeks before it starts to fade at all and another 2 or 3 after that before I have to touch up.

The biggest problem with SFX: your roots grow in before the color gets bad enough to need a touch-up!

Good luck in whatever you decide, and you can always feel free to PM me with questions about coloring/SFX :D

Hey:)
Sorry for not replying any sooner, veggieboards doesn't always let me log in>_<

Aw, thanks:) I might just take your offer hehe...

SFX would definitely be my first choice since I've read tons of great stuff about it and it's actually 100% vegan...so I'm definitely going to order it next time.
but yeah for now manic panic will have to do...

Those colours in the pictures look absolutely awesome though:D

im a massvie SFX fan, although be careful. it does dye EVERYTHING. I have blue in my hair (over bleached) and it's lasting for over 3 weeks great now. but when i washed my hair the furst time after dyeing (after rinsing it out) it tinted my fingernails blue. :D

And I checked my red Manic dye... it's synthetic beeswax, btw.

there's..such a thing as synthetic beeswax?
hehe I didn't know...but how can you tell? I mean is it called different from normal beeswax..orrr

'cause I think my dye just said 'cera alba'..

Anyway if it's synthetic that makes me happy^_^

Manic Panic & Special Effects Dyes are both fully vegan friendly - we contacted them about the cera alba and they confirmed it is defiantely synthetic even although their packaging on the cream dyes just says cera albe and not synthetic cera alba as the amplified dyes do.

If you go to Beeunique.co.uk and click on hints/tips >faq you can se a full list of all ingredients.

Also if you click on Gallery you can see over 400 dye results for Special Effects and Manic Panic hair dyes

Why has noone mentioned stargazer?!
its: a)vegan (i dont think the bleach is though?) b)half the price of manic panic/sfx c) actually in shops. ive only seen manic panic in one shop (cyberdog camden) and never come across sfx, not really a fan of online buying!
i find most colours last 3 weeks if i wash my hair every other day.

when i bleached my hair i used errr superdrug own brand i think. they dont test on animals but im not sure if its vegan or not though.

wierdly, i like having roots. without them it looks like im wearing a wig heheh [strokes long straight hair]

Hm.. is there animal products in hair bleach, or are you looking for products that do not test on animals? I'm still learning about this sort of thing! I use special effects, as my hair is always some thing un-natural. Pinks, blues, greens, you name it, heh.

I know they stand for a lot of animal rights and protections, and do not test on animals.

i use Star Gazer, its cheap and easy to get hold of, its only semi permanent and some of the colours dont work, but the pinks proper vibarant and u get quite a few applications in a bottle so its not too much hassle to redo when its fading.
i get mine off;
attitude.uk.com
where do u go for Special Effects? i would like a UK seller
and im after a vegan bleaching kit too, i think Special Effects mite do one but havent found it yet

haircrazy.com (http://www.haircrazy.com)sells SFX dye in the UK for a pretty good deal, considering they have to get it in from the US, and they have a great selection of dyes.
That, and their main site haircrazy.info (http://www.haircrazy.info)and their forums are full of great people.
I think I've already mentioned haircrazy in this thread when it was posted months ago.

I haven't dyed my hair an odd color since I got out of high school; but my votes are for manic panic and special effects, as well. Manic Panic's Lagoon Blue makes me swoon.

www.herbsgardenshealth.com I use naturtint which you can get from this website. Its suitable for vegans and have no nasties in it. Good colours and also have other options on there.

I'm also looking for vegan hair "bleach", or whitener. I know about all of the good hair colors and dyes, but I have dark brown hair, and I'd like to go white. Lemon juice won't do it for us brunettes (other than to create very nice highlights), I'm afraid. -any other thoughts?

As a reference, my hair color is shown in my headshot, here: www.studiotiffany.com. 10 years post headshot, however, I have quite a bit of grey. My grey is going to be a nice, bright one, but I'm in an odd, in-between stage in which I'm too grey to be brown, but not enough grey not to be brown. -so, I'd like to try pure white, just to see the effect. :)

-so, a safe, vegan "bleach"?? Can we really call the bleach kits that come from companies with vegan hair dyes vegan? Do you know whether they contain actual bleach, which is not vegan?

Can we really call the bleach kits that come from companies with vegan hair dyes vegan?

why shouldn't we? they do. *confused*. special effects and manic panic say that their stuff is vegan friendly, if it turned out not to be, they'd be in big trouble.

Do you know whether they contain actual bleach, which is not vegan?

i'm not sure what you mean by 'actual bleach' but i thought that they generally contained hydrogen peroxide as an active bleaching ingredient (right?) which is vegan- its the other bits in the mixture that i'd be inclined to check on. the manic panic bleaches contain:

What are the Ingredients* of Manic Panic Flash Lightning Bleach Kits?
Developer Ingredients: Deionized Water, Hydrogen Peroxide, Phosphoric Acid.
Bleach Powder Ingredients: Sodium Persulfate, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Stearate, Silica, Ammonium Persulfate, Hydroxymethyl Cellulose, Disodium EDTA, Carbomer, Sodium Laureth Sulfate. [Ingredients correct as of 31st March 2007 and based on manufacturers product packaging]. Fully Vegan Friendly

i didn't see their ingredients listed on their site, but special effects also says their range is vegan friendly. http://www.specialeffectsusa.com/info.html

hello, I know this is an old topic, but I would like to know if these hairdyes (and bleach) are also non animal tested? Because it says 100% vegan, which to me means no animaltesting, but I don't if know if that's the general opinion.

many of the companies listed declare on their websites if/that they don't test. if there isn't such a declaration, contacting them to ask would be a good idea.

Manic Panic and Special Effects!

Manic Panic bleach is fine, but their colors fade super fast. Special Effects colors last at least three times longer. I had pink bright pink hair last year. I miss it sometimes :( but having "normal" hair is good too.
