I could have sworn that Aveda didn't test on animals. I usually buy it and feel like I am really earth friendly...but maybe not. :( I know there are other natural shampoos and conditioners, but I'm a fan of Aveda and I was hoping it wasn't tested.
ALSO, are there any deodorants that aren't tested on animals? I have MAJOR sweating problems, like I soak through a t-shirt in 10 minutes with no deodorant. I'm usually this stuff called Mitchum now, it seems to work pretty well but I really don't think its an earth-friendly product. And I'm sad about it.

Aveda tests on animals? This is news to me. Where are you getting your information? I've been using and enjoying Aveda's products for years!
I'm in a similar situation to you when it comes to deoderant. I NEED to use antipersperant. I have yet to find a quality company that sells antipersperant (I'm currently using Dove and have been using it for years because I find that it works very well.). They all seem to sell deoderant, but never antipersperant. I know that alot of people on this site depend on Tom's of Maine- but alas, the company doesn't have antipersperant (well, not at my co-op, anyway).

Mitchum is made by Revlon, they don't do animal testing but I guess it's not "earth friendly". Dove is owned by Unilever, an animal testing company.
As far as I know there are no "natural" vegan antiperspirants (although there are lots of natural vegan deodorants, I think you are looking for an antiperspirant).

Unilever quit testing on animals, so Dove and Suave are okay, but probably not very earth-friendly

Ok...here's the deal. I'm a professional hairdresser, and I use Aveda and PureOlogy in the salon. PureOlogy is a 100% Vegan product, it says so on the bottle, and just as good, if not better than Aveda IMO. Aveda has never tested on animals, BUT, it IS owned (as of about 5+ years ago) by Estee Lauder. EL as far as I know tests on animals. However, just because EL products are tested on animals, does not mean that Aveda is. Aveda is still the company it has always been as far as conservation/ecological education and product formulations go. None of you have anything to worry about with use of their products....IF you DO have a problem with EL as a company, then I suggest you find another hair product.

hey folks, only use Mitchum or Dove or Suave deodorants if you're not concerned about putting Aluminum on/in your body

Y'know...I allergic to deoderant...even the natural stuff. I can't even *think* about wearing an anti-persperant. I can tolerate the Burt's Bees herbal spray deoderant....but I can't wear it every day.

Where did you hear this? Just wondering because they're still on PETA's "do test" list. Great news though!

I use Tom's natural deodorant, and it works pretty well! It says it's not tested on animals -- I used to be itching from the commercial stuff, but this one doesn't make me itch. I also used to use the crystal thing, that worked pretty well too.

look under the heading "The Dove Brand" and look at the question "What is the Dove policy on animal testing?" :)

Dove and Unilever share your concern over this important matter and we are committed to the elimination of animal testing. We do NOT test any of our home or personal care products on animals. We will continue to work for alternative methods by participating in industry and scientific programs as well as to support legislation that promotes the elimination of animal testing.
That says the products aren't tested on animals...doesn't mention ingredients etc. :worried:

I just started using Aubrey Organics E Plus High C Natural Roll on Deodorant. It's not an antiperspirant but it works pretty well for a natural product. I sweat quite a bit and this keeps up a lot better than other natural ones I've tried. It's vegan and isn't tested on animals. Plus as a side note, after trying this product and liking it I looked more into Aubrey and found that ALL of their products are completely natural, non toxic and have NONE of the creepy ingredients that so many beauty products are full of. Apparently their products have always been 100% natural for 40 years or something so maybe everyone knows this, but it was a good suprise for me!

What about the Avon deodorants? They're anti-perspirants too and are not tested on animals? And they're only like $0.99.

I usually use Tom's even though it doesn't work that well, but recently I was at Big Lots and found Nature's Gate deodorant for 79 cents so I bought several. I tried it and it works pretty well and it says it's vegan right there on the back! Of course it's probably not normally 79 cents...

It makes me sad that companies test on animals. :[
What makes me more sad is that J&J test on animals, and they claim to care to children and HIV and stuff, yet don't have a heart for innocent animals!
When is all of this going to stop. :[ I wish I could save every animal out there.

the statement on their website:
What is Dove’s policy on animal testing?
Unilever, which manufactures Dove is committed to the elimination of animal testing. It is equally committed to consumer health and safety, and to the safety of its workforce and the environment. Where some testing is required by law or currently unavoidable, we aim to minimize the number of animals used.
In pursuit of these goals, Unilever on the one hand applies strict internal control procedures to ensure that animal testing is only carried out when no alternatives are available, and on the other hand invests in developing and applying alternative approaches to replace animal testing in safety assessments for consumer products.
By adopting this dual approach, we advance the elimination of animal testing and reduce the number of tests to the absolute minimum. We provide transparency both in the use of animals and in the progress made in developing alternative approaches.
For more information on Unilever’s policy on Animal Testing, please visit: www.unilever.com/sustainability/people/consumers/animaltesting/.
so in other words, they're pretty much hypocrites.
by the way, I'm new here! HI! I've been vegetarian since 2005 and vegan since last February :pibo:
