Miso is basically fermented soy bean paste. However, because the soy beans are cooked, it is not considered raw. It is however, considered a living food because it does have active enzymes (as long as you don't heat it above enzyme destroying temperatures). Only the unpasteurized miso is considered living, if it has been pasteurized, it is not a living food.
I have mixed feelings about miso as far as whether or not to include it in my diet. It does taste great though and you can dissolve a spoon full in warm water to make a great tasting miso soup.

I prefer chick pea miso. Soy scares me. Dosn't agree with my body either.
Thanks. I wasn't sure because I knew it was fremented and that it had live enzymes, but it was cooked. I am currently 80-85% raw and I am thinking about making a miso soup now and again for variety.
