So, i posted a while back that Hugo might need the snip, & today i was talking to the vet about it while he was having his vaccines done & the vet said it would almost definately stop his humping (not to mention the health benefits) so he's booked in to have his surgery on monday(8th may).I have to bring him in early (8.05am) to be checked by a nurse then i'll have to collect him later that day.I know it's reasonably routine but i'm really scared something is going to go wrong...it's the right thing to do but i'm still anxious.
also, i was wondering if it would be best to keep him inside after his op...do you think it would be too disruptive to put him in my dog crate in the living room (where i can keep an eye on him)? or should i bring his hutch indoors so he's inside but in his own house...???
I guess i'm posting so i can share my anxiety...thanks for listening :)
I'll keep you updated...

My two boys Hans and Franz have both had that done. Hans is a bit older- at least partly Rex. Franz is somewhat younger, a Dutch- he was too young when I adopted him from the shelter at the same time I adopted Hans, with whom he was sharing a cage.

Franz still tries to hump Hans. I think it's more of a dominance attempt; Hans is a little bigger, but he's more easy-going. Franz is always trying to grab food when they're out of their cages and I'm giving them a treat.

Not to get you worried, but I suppose any surgery involves risk, from the anesthesia if nothing else. I'd think that Hugo would be most at ease in his own hutch but in your house, but you know your rabbit.

Are there Cuterebra flies in your area? My first rabbit was attacked by them, so I keep my rabbits indoors these days.

Thanks Tom...i'm not sure if we have cuterbra flies round here (i'm in the UK if that makes a difference?) but i'll try to find out :) thanks.

I would keep any post-op animal under fair observation for at least 48 hours, close if a rabbit for 24, and I would/have kept them in the crate close by. In south Texas, it'd be engulfed with Fire Ants from the smell however slight of the surgery. Kudos to you for taking the initiative and the expense to care for your animal... T.

Now you can get a female rabbit friend.
