Where do you shop for your groceries? local grocery or natural foods market? I try to go to TJ's or Whole Foods but its not always an option since they are both not very close to where i live. my local grocery chain store has a big selection of organic and natural stuff, BUT their prices oy vey! much higher than TJ's especially!

I go to the local market (Ingles), though Kroger has a better selection, it's not as close in location. I drive over 40 miles to reach a large health food store. I order online. My husband grows some of our own as well.

Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Then local grocery store. Whole Foods is too expensive even though I like to walk around and browse. And treat myself to their baked goods. I limit my shopping there.
Some shopping in Asian markets for tofu, Asian style vegetables, and seitan.

We're military, so I shop at the commissary on post. It's cheap. I live in a very un-friendly to vegetarians area and we don't have any health food stores. The commissary is starting to have a lot of options in organic veggies and all natural beauty products, which is good and I buy those things.

The nearest Whole Foods is 1.5 hours away from here and I try to make a trip every other month or so. Whenever I go, I end up spending $200+ something! I love that store!!

ok this will sound foolish but what is a coop? i was part of a buying club awhile ago, but i dont know if its the same thing? we would place an order once a month and it was delivered to one of the members homes and we took turns unloading the truck and sorting things. it was poorly organized and it always seemed to be my turn and no one took my suggestions for making it easier to organize and streamline, so i opted not to take part recently.
so i saw an ad for a food coop that has a store front, is this what you are talking about?

As far as I know, a grocery store type co-op is almost like a buying club, except they usually have a lot more members and have a store front. You usually don't have to be a memeber of the co-op to shop there, but you can often times get better deals if you are.

I usually shop at Fred Meyer's (Kroger), Top Foods and Trader Joe's. If I have time and am in the area, I will usually stop by Whole Foods or PCC (co-op) for vegan treats that I can't get else where.

COOP = Cooperative. It is a store where the shoppers are also the owners. The one that I belong to allows anyone to shop and anyone to join. If you join then you buy a certain amount of shares, and then you can buy stuff at the shelf price (non-members pay 5% more). Since all members are also owners they are allowed to go to member meetings where they discuss the politics, finances, and anything else about the store. A council exists, but some stuff can be influenced by member votes as well.

It tends to be way more vegan and environmentally friendly than a typical grocery store. Mine has lots of organic and local produce. It is a pretty neat place.

The local grocery store. I make a once a month trip to the health food store for things like nutritional yeast and I generally pick up a few smaller items, seitan or rice milk based parmesan alternative. It's expensive so I tend to try to make my own. Organic is astronomical. $4.99/lb of organic apples or $2.99 for a 5 pound bag of McIntosh. Hmmm, let's see....:juggle:
There was a small coop around me but it mainly dealt with monthly packages of food which were 75% meat. Great deal, helped local farms and the produce was very fresh but what am I going to do with approximately 5 pounds of meat products every week? So I no longer buy anything through them. I wish I had more choices.
Whole foods was petitioned by people to open up in the area but they apparently thought it wasn't rich enough to afford them. ::shrug::

I'm a member at a local co-op, so that's where I buy the vast majority of my food. Sometimes I go to Whole Foods because the store is larger and they carry a lot of things that I've never tried (and I LOVE trying new foods). Trader Joes is coming to my area this month, so I'll definetly be checking that out!
I buy all of my personal care products (aside from hair products, which are purchased at the Aveda store across the street) and cleaning products from my co-op also, and all of my cat's stuff (his homeopathic litter and his food) come from a locally owned pet supply store called The Urban Animal.

I do most of my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. It's cheaper, there's more selection, and the produce is usually a lot more fresh. I do buy a few things here and there (Food City or Ingles) if something I want is on sale. We don't have a Whole Foods or Trader Joes. :(

I make my own soap, lotion, and shampoo. Most of my oils for these are ordered online, but I buy the lye locally from Lowe's.

Trader Joe's which is right across my office, Whole Foods once a week, then any of the local supermarkets near my house. TJ's is pretty cheap, but Whole Foods has a lot more vegan selection than TJ's or grocery -- that's where I buy my frozen treats like Tofutti!

I shop at whole foods when i have the money, because i love the store and the selection, wild oats, and occasionally bakers.
