sounds yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have to sacrifice worchestershire sauce for balsamic vinegar and garb. beans for the kidney beans...will inform on how it turns out (buahahahahaha)...lol ;-) and minus the green pepper...may add some TVP for texture purposes. *ANXIOUS*...hopefully my daughter will love it ^_^

Thanks for a rocking recipe!

ok...what I did, and it turned out pretty good, but a bit watery:

the [earth balance] margarine was used to sautee up the minced onion
added about a cup of made TVP, some raw sesame seeds (about two ounces), 2/3 cup cooked quinoa, 12.3 ounce pack of extra firm tofu (mashed, of course), chili powder, minced onion, parsley, basil, garlic salt (rather than salt), dried roasted garlic chunks, 3/4 cans garbanzo beans, a lil water, ketchup, balsamic vinegar. The flavor seemed just about there. Texture is something to be concerned with, but the taste, generally speaking, was very very good. Had the right tang, etc. I probably went overboard on the amt. of herbs and spices that I used, but it turned out quite yummy^_^

omitted: oregano (I happen to not have any...haha!), kidney beans, worchestershire sauce, green peppers.

Thanks again for the ideas!! I really hammered the recipe up due to lack of ingredients from my move here to NC, but haha...this stuff tasted delish, nonetheless. ^_^

leftovers went to the freezer for a rainy day. (hooray!!)

Would it work with veggie oil instead of margarine?

Worcestershire sauce also known as Worcester sauce is a widely used fermented liquid condiment. It is currently made with vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, water, chilli peppers, soy sauce, pepper, tamarinds, anchovies, onions, shallots, cloves and garlic.

Jacqueline

*Vegan Worcestershire Sauce* (yields 1.5 cups)

6 T water
6 T brown rice syrup
1/4 cup tamari
2 T apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. barley malt syrup
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. cayenne pepper
tiny pinch ground cloves
tiny pinch onion powder

Blend, whisk or shake until the mixture is smooth and the powders
are well incorporated. Store in the fridge; this keeps well.

Substitutions (mine):
in place of brown rice syrup -
amazake, FruitSource or date sugar, plus 1 tsp. molasses
(if using the powdered sweeteners, mix with enough weak broth
to form a thick paste or syrup)
in place of barley malt syrup - molasses or sorghum
in place of garlic powder - equivalent fresh garlic
in place of onion powder - tiny amount of minced fresh onion
in place of onion and garlic powders - minced fresh shallots
in place of tamari - regular soy sauce, or reduced sodium tamari/soy sauce.

Or you can purchase Vegan style in the store.
