Just tried a new variety (http://freshmangos.com/images/3atualfos.jpg) of mango called 'ATAULFO'
Mango (cite: http://freshmangos.com/varieties.html )...in various places well away from the core I found really odd bits (1inch long, perhaps 1cm in diameter) of 'growth' with the color of cooked chicken. I can't tell you what they taste like as I stopped eating the mango at that point...I can tell you its not part of the skin or pit as I've dissected both. I've eaten lots of mangos before but never this variety.

Now I'm worried some horrible infestation was in my mango and I'm dying to find out what was wrong with it?

honestly it just looks like a dry, mealy spot. I wouldn't fret :) And those are my favorite mangoes :)

Mmm, I love that kind of mango! That spot does look pretty gross, but I'm sure it's harmless.

I've seen mangoes with this type of problem before - a co-worker of mine was eating one once and saw something similar, and just ate around it, lol. I didn't have the stomach for that when I found one. I've seen necatarines like that too. I dont think its a big deal, but you'll probably join me as a member of the "only-eating-mangoes-and-nectarines-that-have-been-well-cut-up-first" club!
