ok..i must have missed something. i remember being taught not to EVER leave food out.

my friend leaves a glass of soy milk out over night for when she's thirsty and if its not gone by morning will then drink it?! that strikes me as wrong?! is it??

and my housemate brought home apple crumble from work, it has dairy in the crumble bit im guessing since bits of it are all goey, and underneat is cooked apple. if it was in her bag over night and put in the fridge 12 hours later...is it still good? and for how long?!

AND...i was recently told not to put cooked things in the fridge for a few hours coz it wears out the fridge. totally goes against what i was taught at school!!

any opinions??!!

I have a habit of leaving food out when it should really be put in the fridge! I think it all depends on what the food is and what the temperature is in your house and outside. For example it is important for rice to be refrigerated once cooled. Something to do with the bacteria. It can make you pretty sick if you don't heat it through enough the next day.

As for leaving soy milk out I would question whether you should drink it if it hasn't been covered over. I suppose it's all down to individual tastes and habits.

You should always let food cool down for a few hours before putting it in the fridge. The reason being if it's too warm when it goes in the fridge it will raise the overall temperature in the fridge which isn't good for everything else! I have never heard of it wearing out the fridge.:worried:
