So after a couple months on prozac, it's stopped working for me. I called my doctor and he suggested i double the dose. i'm now going to be taking 40 mg daily.
just wondering if anyone else has had to deal with the switching of doses/medication when battling depression? hopefully this dose works... i just want to be happy/functional again. :wall:

I can't speak from experience, but a lot of people need to increase dosages or switch to different antidepressants over the course of treatment. You just have to find the one that works right for you. Depression is the most common and easiest to treat of the mood disorders and 75% of people with depression go untreated, which is kind of silly. You may need to mess with meds for a while to get it right, and if things don't seem to be working, make an appointment with a PSYCHIATRIST who will do you a heck of a lot more good helping you regulate medication than your family doctor.
Yes, they always start Prozac out on the lowest dose and work up to your needed level. Don't worry. You will find your level and get to functioning and feeling close to normal.
On your part, you fight by guarding your thoughts. "Watch your stinkin' thinkin'." Try to not be hard on yourself if you can't get things done. You are not a lost cause. You are just ill and you shall recover. Sometimes it is slow going and sometimes it is long term medication, but you can do this. Never give up on yourself, and cut yourself as much slack as you would someone else in the same condition.

I agree with rabid_child and Life2k. There are numerous different medications that you can try if the increased dose of Prozac doesn't do the trick. I have a friend who changes meds periodically until the just the right one works again. I'm sure it's frustrating, but hang in there.

Yeah, when I was on Paxil the last time I had to have dosage upped...I had been on it a couple times before in the past. Like everyone said, it takes awhile before you get the right dosage but it's so worth it. Hang in there. Like life2k said, we are always here for you. And like rabid_child said, make sure you stick to a pysch doctor if you can, they are so much better at regulating meds. Not that a gen md can't but in my experience, it turns out better in the long run.
