View Full Version : The very small garden at the edge of my desk...
So far I have two plants... lol
One is a dusty miller I got a few weeks ago. He's now a little over 4 inches tall and doing well on the desk next to my window. I'm not sure what the other one is... He has dark green leaves, small yellow flowers, and is about 5 and a half inches tall, can anyone identify him for me? I don't know how old he is as my mom said I could keep him in my room... Anyway, what do you think would be some easy to grow editions? I've taken care of some of the other plants outside in our garden, too...
Thanks =)
EDIT: My mom figured out he's a Kalanchoe.
Also, a couple of the leaves of my dusty miller are turning green instead of the silvery color the rest are... Is this okay? So far he's doing the best out of the others but is it alright for dusty millers to be in containers?
I cannot, sadly. But I do have a tip for your garden.

I love how you call your plants "he" "him"
so cool.
I'll call the kalanchoe a she if you want ^.^
I love Dusty Miller! I have a bunch growing on my deck. I think they look gorgeous right next to bright red flowers, which I have planted next to them (marigolds and salvia). If you're going to have plants indoors, ivy is nice. I love ivy. Most plants are pretty easy to grow as long as you care for them properly.

I officially have a black thumb. When I lived in Florida, my best friend there was from Puerto Rico and she could grow anything she got her hands on. She even rescued a couple of my plants, got them into shape and gave them back to me with the condition that if they start to die again she could claim them. When I left Florida I gave her all my plants except one. That's been 2 years ago and my plant is still alive, it's a true miracle. It's a pothos or hothos (I think that's how you spell it) a hanging viney type plant. It was about 2 feet long, thanks to my friend, when I left Florida and it's now only barely falling out of the pot. I haven't killed it yet but it's shrinking. I repotted it and broke it into 2 plants. The other one is about dead now because i think I put too much fertilizer.
I went into home depot a few weeks ago and they were having a sale on Berber seeds so I bought some rosemary, basil, parsley, lavendar, chives and something else I forgot. Anyway, I planted them in separare pots and put them in a window. They are actually growing! Anyone with tips on how to keep them growing would be great. Fresh herbs in the market are so expensive yet so much better than bottled herbs so I would love to see these through to fruition. Yum, fresh herbs.

Untold:
If you enjoy plants and flowers, it's good to invest in an inexpensive garden reference book. The kind with lots of color pics so it can help you identify plant names and care info. I've been gardening for awhile and started with a few good books. My problem is that I can never remember names, and worst with botonical names. But it's sure fun to find your exact plant in the book.
Good luck.
Thanks, my mom has a lot of books that I can look at
Now I have six plants. We went to Lowes for three; a stone faced lithop, a rainbow bush and a desert lotus, I took in one from the garden who wasn't doing well; a begonia and my other two who are still doing well. =)

Congrats on the new guys :) I bet your desk looks great by now
Yea, it's really crowded, though. When I'm able to, I'm going to get a seperate table for my plants.

I am sure they will be happy to get a desk of their very own :)
Some of my plants are growing towards my speaker... I read somewhere that music with a steady beat would help them grow...??
