I saw something in the store today that has the potential to be one of the most wonderful things I've discovered in quite some time... Bolthouse Farms Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappucino flavor. I adore the Vanilla Chai Tea flavor, and I have high hopes that this stuff will be at least as good.

I haven't tried it yet-- it's for next week at work.

FYI - The new Perfectly Protein Mocha Cappuccino is made w/ whey protein and lowfat milk.

Ah, crumb! I saw "With Whey Protein" right on the front of the bottle, and my brain skimmed right over what that meant. I'd be a pretty lousy vegan, eh? Well, so much for being the best thing ever. I'll drink this one, but I doubt I'll buy any more. :furious:

What's wrong with Whey? Is it not really a grain? What makes it not vegan?

Whey is milk protein I believe, or something similar.

Yep. Whey comes from cows. :(

When I saw this product, I just assumed it was exactly like the Vanilla Chai Tea, but in a new and yummy flavor. Unfortunately, it is a completely different product and it is heavily dairy. Lowfat milk is the first ingredient.

I need to move to an area that carries more of a variety of all the good things I see on VB! I have pretty slim pickins around here.

YES you do. I'm glad VT has a decent selection here.

I had this today, and it's pretty decent. It's a lot like drinking a bottled Starbucks Mocha Frappucino, but it's fortified with whey protein powder and several different vitamins and minerals, so it's like a punched-up, higher-protein version of a Frappucino. So if you're lacto enough that you don't mind drinking bottles of cowmilk, it may be worth looking into. It has a slightly sour undertaste, though, that could just be the fact that I'm not used to cowmilk anymore because I drink it so rarely. Let's hope it doesn't make me sick.

The good news for strict non-dairy people is that I don't like it as much as either the Vanilla Chai Tea flavor of Perfectly Protein or Silk Coffee flavor. So you're not really missing out on anything wonderful. I give it three stars purely on taste-- fine, but I wouldn't be in a rush to get more.

I wonder if they would consider making a vegan version? With some nice emails? *shrug*

yeah, I was really disappointed. why wouldn't they make it vegan? it's kinda stupid IMO.

^^^ I am going to nicely e-mail them.

Because vegans are a tiny minority of the market?. Good luck though.

That may be true, but people with lactose intolerances, combined with vegans, and I think I'm forgetting a few other groups, would probably enjoy the soy version better? Just food for thought I guess. Will email them too - even though I haven't yet seen the mocha one around. :)

Yes, but they seem to be a VERY VOCAL tiny minority. Sometimes the squeaky wheel does in fact get the oil.

I'm trying to get soy keifers back in stock myself. I asked at the grocery and they were like...SOY...keeeper? wha....??

I love that stuff but they have only stocked dairy keifer for a while. That what happens when the demand isn't there:(.

I am still working on them to pt out more varities without sugar in them.
Somehow that is not working out very well, I mostly get told there is just not enough demand

Well, I also e-mailed Bolthouse Farms. I told them how the Vanilla Chai Tea just blazes off the shelves at my grocery store-- they can't keep the stuff in stock! And how disappointed I was to discover that the Mocha was dairy, and how I won't be buying it again, and how I really think if nothing else, they should make the label easier for customers to distinguish that these are NOT the same beverage in two different flavors-- they're two completely different products.

I have one of the Bolthouse protein drinks each morning (I allow myself some dairy); I like both flavors. Does anyone know why Odwalla stopped making the chocolate protein shake? I guess they brought out the almond one to replace it, but that has too much fat for me.
