I don't know if any other Brits saw this programme on BBC1 on Wednesday night? After an hour of watching Paul McCartney and his fabulous wife Heather Mills McCartney campaigning and trying so hard to stop the horrific cat and dog fur trade - and then seeing the excrutiatingly vile and shocking footage of the horrific ways cats and dogs are treated, and then seeing the dog being skinned ALIVE (OMG!), I feel so wound up, upset and angry with the trade and the celebs that wear fur, and yet also empowered and desperate to help. It was a tough programme to sit through and watch, but I am so pleased the BBC broadcast it and I hope the PETA footage and seeing the McCartneys working so hard will make people stop and think and NOT buy fur. They are a remarkable animal loving couple and I am full of admiration for them.

Yeh, i saw it, was really good. That alsation footage was awful  and so was seeing those catwalk models wearing whole furs, with tails dangling everywhere! Great to see PETA videos on tv though, and Heather was amazing.

I can't bring myself to watch things like that, It would upset me too much, although people from work watched and were horrified. It is good to make people aware of this barbarity, like they say out of sight out of mind. Treatment of animals in an industry like this should be public knowledge. As with the meat industry, I'm sure if people new how their "dinner" ended up on their plate in the first place an awful lot would become veggie.

I couldn't agree more. God Bless Sir Paul and Lady Heather.

Yes indeed. They are truly remarkable people with compassion in their hearts.
I watched it, but looked away when they showed the clips of the fur farms etc. i couldn't bear to watch it. My omni friend, who was also watching, rang me half way through, crying, saying 'this almost makes me want to go veggie' well, if that doesn't make you, nothing will.I have loads of admiration for the mcartneys, thought it was really nice when Paul said that his goats & sheep etc. will get to die of old age. :)

Thanks to this program I FINALLY managed to convince my husband to go veggie. I was apalled, shocked, disgusted but most of all sad. I have written PETA and asked for leaflets and posters which I will happily decorate my town with. There's a lot of people who's eyes still need to be opened and I plan on doing my very best to try and get that accomplished.

I agree, it really was a powerful programme. Sickening to watch but hopefully will turn other people like your husband veggie!

I wish the US would grow a backbone and show footage of the horrible meat, dairy, and fur industries. The government and the industries are practically joined at the hip. They both make lots of money off of each other and would never deliberately show footage that would turn consumers away from their "products". :(

I didn't realise it was like that in America? We get a lot of hard hitting programmes here which is excellent.

I have seen other PETA videos on the fur trade and thats why i'm so anti-fur. About 7-8 years ago is when I first saw a dog being skinned alive on tv. Then about 6 months ago I was on the PETA site and it once again talked about the fur trade in China. I watched all the videos without knowing the horror I would see. I dont know if anyone else has seen the racoon video? The video shows a racoon being skinned alive and then dumped in pile with other racoons while still blinking. I feel helpless because I want to show this video to every person I see and say "look at the suffering". Its sad because this is an industry we can all help shut down because its not needed.

watching a PETA video made me go veggie, I think it may have been part of this one. It showed an animal being skinned alive then when it was over it got thrown in a bucket of previously skinned animals. It looked into the camera and I was just in shock. It was so helpless and I was so angry. Since I saw this I completely stopped eating meat, as I dont want to do anything which will involve an animal being in so much pain.
VelvetRose: yes! That's the one I'm talking about, the raccoons. I posted at about the same time. It's so awful

And..... they've split up :-/.. ah well.
Elle magazine wants to know how you feel about buying and wearing fur.
Please answer the survey:

There are only 6 or 7 questions, and shouldn't take more than 1 minute.

I was so sad to hear that the McCartneys have separated. I thought they were a fabulous couple and really fought so hard for animals together. I hope they will be happy and wish them all the best. :-/
