I was going to put this in the dietery/ weight sub put I don't think people would appreciate that. Anyway I think my rabbit has food 'issues' as all he does is eat all day. He sits next to the fridge and begs for food and its getting a bit ridiculous now, when people come round to mine they don't believe me that he gets fed. I'm tempted to book him in to weight watchers.

I'm not certain... but my first rabbit might have died partly because she was overweight. The first year I had her I had to take her to ther vet, but the vet didn't say anything sabout her weighing too much.

I think the House Rabbit Society (www.rabbit.org) has tips about how to judge whether your rabbit weighs too much.

muse: Is it possible that he has worms? I know outside rabbits get them, but I don't know if your rabbit goes outside.

No, he lives in the house (right next to the fridge:-/ )

I never owned a rabbit, so I don't know much about them. Could he be bored? I know I eat when I'm bored! If he's not overweight, I wouldn't think he's eating too much. Or, perhaps, he needs more food at one sitting, so it will hold him over till it's time to eat again? I really have no idea, I'm just guessing here. :)

The only reason he isn't overweight is because I give him his 3 meals a day then tiny bits from the fridge. The other day he climbed into the shopping bag and took the green beans out and ate them.
Oh yeah, and I let him outside at christmas and he ate the snow.

Muse: I would still ask your vet if he doesn't think you should give the rabbit a deworming product. Maybe rabbits don't get hungry with worms, but my cat certainly does when he has them. He gets frantic for food and that's a sign for me to deworm him. It's worth a try.

could you not give him more low calorie products to fill him up with out causing him to gain weight. Decreasing his pellets would make more room for extra hay and veggies that have lots less calories and much more fiber. Most people feed rabbits too many pellets so that may be what hes telling you.

I give him a big dish of hay and veggies, but hes a piggy. I'm tempted to phone the animal lab and say' excuse me I have a bunny that I 'borrowed' from you, would you like him back?'

He should have unlimited acesss to timothy hay, all the fiber is good for him :)

muse: How about changing the make of the pellets you give him? Sometimes just a change of food can make a big difference for animals.
I don't know if it's the same for rabbits than cats - but any big food change should be made gradually but possibly rabbits are not so picky.

He eats his bunny pellets (we won't eat cheap ones so he gets the expensive ones :/), and TBT he wont eat hay from a plate he only eats it from his litter tray.

lol

does he have lots of chewies? you can get fruit flavoured wood chews etc. if he's just eating out of boredom or to grind his teeth down, try giving him new chews and toys to keep him busy.

No, he won't use them. Why would he when he has perfectly good sofas, tvs and carpets to chew?

I don't know. All 3 of my rabbits have been voracious eaters. I measure Hans and Franz' pellets to keep track of what they get, but still...

My first rabbit Sony used to consider dandelion flower stalks some sort of delicacy... she'd start at the bottom and eat it like spaghetti, with the flower disappearing into her mouth at the end. But one time, I offered her a big strawberry and she recoiled from it (too sour maybe?) She wasn't big on grass or hay, but Hans and Franz like those.

My rabbit Harvey had a very big appetite, but he was huge! not fat, just a very big bunny, Ralph ate what i would call an 'average' rabbit diet consisting of rabbit mix, fresh hay & greens.Hugo is greedy in the sense that if you gave him a chew treat or something, he wouldn't stop until it's gone. All my rabbit have been grazers, eating almost constantly but if your worried, perhaps you should give your vet a call. hope everything is ok :)
