So I was driving to work yesterday and I came upon this huge chicken hauling truck... I hated following it... I felt so horrible. Its the worst feeling in the world to watch some atrocity and feel incapable of doing anything. I just dont understand how someone can have no compassion for another living creature and its welfare. I couldnt help but think "does that truck driver have a conscious?

they were so packed in there they couldnt move and in some spots wings were jutting out of their little cages.... and they had to be freezing on the interstate.

*sighs* :-/

I have only seen one those trucks one time...
Thank Goodness! At first (I was not vegetarian then, much less vegan) I was not sure what it even was, since they were so crammed in there.... just looked dirty and fluffy-ish.
When I realized that they were chickens... I was flabbergasted... :surprised
and sick...
and sad... and angry... :grr: and disgusted with the whole d*** thing.... :furious: that was my first glimpse into factory farming and one of my a-ha moments....
I don't get how others that see it don't get it?

It is not an image that goes away easily, but know there are others that share in your feelings!

I hate seeing nasty stuf like that when your're helpless to intervene- sheep trucks are harsh as to watch too. Also in Turkey i saw eveyone abusing donkeys- it was so horrible- they're like slaves who get beaten with an inch of their life there

where i live, those trucks are EVERYWHERE on the highway. i've seen chicken trucks with feathers flying out the little holes, and pig trucks because i saw this pig ear sticking outside the window, i guess to catch a breeze of fresh air. poor thing, it'll be the last and only fresh air he/she'll ever have - the truck was undoubtedly bound for a slaughterhouse. that image is still frozen in my head, almost a year later.

i think the truck driver just needs to make a buck, like most people involved in the meat industry. don't blame them, blame people for demanding it.

There is a Perdue chicken processing plant in the town where my parents live, so I see those trucks all the time on the freeway when I'm driving to their house. I have to look away and sort of shut down my brain or I start crying.

One of my dad's friends drives trucks for Perdue, he mostly hauls feed, but sometimes he takes chickens. My dad rode along with him once, when he was hauling feed. After seeing the chicken barns my dad said "I feel bad for those chickens", and yet he still eats them. The disconnect to me is incredible. They turn away and shut down their brains just like me, but they do it, not to avoid emotional trauma, but because the alternative is changing their lifestyle.

There is a big farm show every year near where I live. They always have a bunch of chicks on display. I can't even look at them. Everyone is saying oh so cute. All I could think of is their miserable fate ahead of them.

When I was in Delaware last year, we were riding behind a Perdue truck. We were on a motocycle and the smell was awful and the feathers kept flying in our faces. I was miserable.

My MIL wanted to take my sons to a local sheep farm to see the baby lambs and I can't go. I'd love to see little baby lambs but I'm sure all I'll be able to tink about is which ones will eventually be slaughtered.
Seeing one of those chicken trucks, though, is what made me go vegetarian. I agree, it's vile to see.

I've seen sheep trucks too. They looked at me, it was so sad that I couldn't save them. Some of them were putting their heads on other sheeps backs like they were trying to comfort each other. I really wanted to believe they were being relocated to another farm. But obviously not.

I had never noticed one until the other day. Thankfully it was passing on the other side of the highway. I could tell it was packed though. Unreal.

I don't see them often but I do make a point to tell the omnis I'm with what they are. My boyfriend who grew up on a cow farm was horrified by them (but I've already gotten him to cut down on chicken, so that just adds fuel to my slowly but steadly burning fire)

I, thankfully, have not seen anything like this. The other day I saw an advert in the butchers for "fresh spring lamb". How on earth can someone find that tempting. Spring lamb just makes you think of a cute new born lamb, mmmm yummy.

I live in a rurual community with chicken death camps lining the way to everywhere, it's awful, and so there are lots of trucks on the road hauling chickens, cows and other beautiful creatures to the nazi death camps. It is the worst feeling to pass these animals and look into their eyes. What I started doing recently is holding up a sign for the driver to see, it says VEGETARIAN in big, bold letters. I'm really a vegan but I'm sure that word isn't in their vocabulary. Make a big sign and carry it in your car, it's a small gesture and lots of the drivers will actually flip you off but it's better than passing by them and not doing anything. I've heard of people actually trying to stop drivers to talk them into finding new jobs, that's super. I also have a couple of cool bumper stickers to broaden people's minds.....

*Shudder* I feel sooo bad when I see things like this.
If anyone wants to know more about transportation laws in relation to animal activism, check out an internation group called the Animal Angels. They follow those trucks on thier routes and film. Unreal.
