When exercising outside some of us actually reduce the amount of calories we usually burn exercising inside.
With spring here and summer coming, having the urge to get outside to exercise grows. With the wind blowing in your hair and the sun shinning down on you, your spirits should be on cloud nine. The reason I mention this is because the sun, the fresh air, the warmth, can also be a distraction in burning the calories you intend to burn when you DO go outside to exercise. So how do you guarantee yourself that you will burn the calories you intend to burn? One way is using your mp3 player. The most popular exercise in the warm months is walking. By using your ipod or mp3 player you can make a playlist that will help you keep a certain pace when walking. Also you can set a time limit based on the length of your playlist. Make sure you use a brisk beat per minute to keep your heart rate up I max out at 165 but lower is good. And remember to cool down in the end. Also you can find downloads (http://wwwpodfitnessbod.com) that are made just for walking.

I think he means you're less likely to do vigourous exercise with lots of distractions... the fresh air of summer might incline you to relax a bit.
Personally speaking though, if I don't get exercise outdoors, I don't get exercise period.

Thanks Kpickell.
I find that a bit wierd, but I can see it, I guess.
I always fnd that I exercise harder outside. And usually for much longer as well. I can only spend about half an hour on a stationary bike, but hour long bike rides pass by in minutes! Something about the wind in my hair and the sun in my face, I guess.

Yeah this is totally me. Exercising inside is soooo depressing, I end up feeling much worse than before I started exercising in the first place. Long term, it brings me down so much I actually start to feel physically weak and ill...
Spring and autumn are really the only times of year where I can bring myself to get active for more than 2 consecutive days and still feel good lol. I know it's just awful not to exercise but when the weather is too hot or cold to exercise comfortably outside, I would sometimes rather gouge out my eyes with a wooden spoon and replace them with Cadbury creme eggs than be stuck inside on a tread, or stationery bike or elliptical in front of a TV.....

I like exercising indoors and out, but I do know what you mean. When I run outside I tend to run farther and faster. Unfortunately, here in southern Arizona it's already getting too hot to comfortably run outside, unless of course I ran early in the morning, which never seems to happen...

I'd like to run, but I have a mild case of interstitial cystitis, which makes it pretty uncomfortable, but on the up side, I get to read.

That's absurd. Nearly everyone burns more calories during the summer months (whether trying to exercise or not) because the warm weather stimulates the urge to get out and move (or get distracted, as you call it, by the great outdoors).
I think many people find indoor gyms to be soul sucking, depressing, and monotonous.
The more I hear from "trainers" the more I dislike them.

>>I max out at 165 >>
I'm sorry.
Do you mean your heart rate hits 165 WALKING?
I will hit this sustaining biking at 22 mph whilst sweating buckets, but walking?
