Hey, well to start off my name is Molly and im 14 years old. Last year on my birthday, May 14th I gave up all drinks, anything other than water didnt touch my lips over the past year, that might not sound like much but with my family, people who drink coffee and tea and soda all the time it was difficult. On Easter I was at my Papa Bill's house back in my hometown, and they make sausage and pretty much everyone in my hometown buys from them. I dont really know him that well becuse he is a step-grandpa and my Dad hasnt ever really liked him, but he took me in the freezer, I didnt know that's where I was going at the time but when I looked up and started crying when I saw the poor pigs I just thought, how could I ever eat that? It's cruel, so I have pretty much stoped eating meat now but on my birthday is the first day im really starting, I was wondering if anyone has any tips for me?

You can post them here, or IM me at NCTarheelgirl91 or e-mail me at NCTarheelgirl91@aol.com

Thanks, Molly:shy:

Have you told your family about your decision? You will need their support. You don't want to be keeping this lifestyle change a secret from them. As far a sausage goes, there are various fake sausage products out there. So, while everyone else is eating the real thing, you could have your veggie sausage. My concern is that they would get offended that you didn't like Papa Bill's sausage. But if you explain your feelings about animals, they just might have some compassion and support your choice. Best of luck.

Wow, what made you decide to drink only water from now on? No juice or smoothies or milk?

Here's what I think... if you have that kind of dedication and commitment, you can do anything you want! Vegetarianism takes some time, but it's not hard. Heck, these days there are replacements for just about everything, and even fast food restaurants are serving vegetarian options. You'll do fine.

My only advice is to read up on vegetarianism. There are things to consider. Check out the book "Becoming Vegetarian", and the website www.veganhealth.org. There's lots of good information out there, and you've come to the right place here, to start becoming informed on all the issues and concerns that vegetarians face.

Good luck!
