View Full Version : Quiet Activism
For those of you who are like me want to show your green colors, but don’t want to come off as a crazy animals rights protestor or don’t want to draw too much attention to yourself here are some quieter ways to show your veg*n stance.
1) Wear a shirt like “I love tofu” or others that promote a veg*n lifestyle.
2) Put AR stickers on your water bottle or school supplies, and do not be afraid to answer any questions that people might ask when they see them.
3) Make and wear anything that says Vegan or Vegetarian. Example would be beaded jewelry with letters beads, your own t- shirts, canvas totes, and anything else creative you can think of.
4) Write letters to newspapers, magazines, political figures on issues you feel strongly about, but do not want to join or start a protest. To find important issues that are going on go to www.peta.com , www.greenpeace.org or Google issues to that you feel strongly about.
5) Take pictures and document any abuse or mistreatment of animals you see. If things are very dangerous for the animal do not be afraid to report it or involve people who can prevent it. You can be an anonymous caller.
6) Start a blog about becoming a veg*n, your views on what our society is doing to animals or anything else that you feel would benefit yourself, others and the animals.
These are only a few ideas. If you have other to mention please post them so those who want to become more active in animals rights, but don’t want to stand on a street corner with signs feels like they can do something rather than nothing.
Since we all get a lot of junk mail that comes with pre paid envelops that goes back to the company, you can fill them with literature and send it to back them, you never know who will open it and read it. I always stuff the envelopes with the phamplet , Even if you if you like Meat by Vegan Outreach.

That is a great idea.:smitten: I would never have thought of that. It would be one way to recycle the junk mail you get and maybe change a mind.
~Another idea is you can put up fliers around your school. It can be anything from local veg*n events to why not to wear fur. Make sure to check your school's policy for posting fliers and what is and not allowed. The gory or naked fliers from PETA would not be a smart idea to put up at school.
~Join Bookcrossing.com (http://bookcrossing.com/friend/FallenOrra)and leave books that support veg*n lifestyle in random places. Bookcrossing is a place where you register books, release them (like releasing an animal into the wild) and see if someone had picked it up and goes to the site to let you know. A nice way to give someoen a free book that will benifit the animals.
~Host a party with vegan food. You can have a potluck if you are inviting your vegan friends or you can make all the food and invite mix company to not only try some yummy vegan food. Put on some music, decorate the place in whatever way you like. You can even go with a theme. Like serve food from the Italy and put up decorations of famous landmarks, a cafe or anything else you want. Have a lot of fun with this.

I like that shirt and your nail color....
I have to work on that one. I don't even know where to get a shirt like that. I try to buy organic and environmental, but most people don't notice. Their loss!!! I take treehugger as a compliment but don't know how to get the messages out. It was easier when I was in school. I am a professional now and have to dress up everyday. With that in mind, I have no ideas on how to inform and encourage others to join in.... T-shirts are not allowed. I think only jewlery might help. Other than that, no ideas.... I'll take suggestions too though.

I have the Peta "Beating hearts" necklace. http://www.petacatalog.org/prodinfo.asp?number=AT386
I get complimented on it a lot which opens up discussion, even if it's a few words. Even though you have to dress up maybe jewelry could be your way to encourage others? Good luck:D

I was going to say the same thing, lol. I hate tofu (I hate it whole, but I don't mind it in baking or mixed into a dessert like pudding) but I love broccoli.
For the I LOVE BROCCOLI! people, have a graphic and make your own t-shirt.
For those of you who need a tofu image:
I'm not a big fan of tofu either, but the I love broccoli sounds like a cool shirt. There have some other ones over at alternative Outfitters (http://www.alternativeoutfitters.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=10) for those of us who are too lazy to make our own shirts. There's a I love veggies and I love carbs shirt.

I love the water bottle idea. I've been trying to think of a way to use those free stickers from Peta2.com. Awesome!

I did this yesterday with an "I (heart) PETA" sticker. Found a suprising number of people who didn't know what PETA is, but got a lot of "oh, that's cool!" comments when I explained to them.
Nice post. :D

If a t-shirt won't work for you, how about a wristband?
See thread:
http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=52087
Or, join www.BookCrossing.com, register copies of your favorite vegetarian/AR literature, and start releasing!

The only issues with using stickers from peta2 on water bottles is that they are not vinyl, but paper and they will get ruin pretty fast when they get wet. I had a few on mine, but had to take them off because they got ruin and it was hard to see what they said.

Another one that I saw on the vegan freak forum was to wear a veg*n shirt while working out or ant kind of physical activity. So people know that we are not weak and straved people.
