In my own shift to vegetarianism and my (occurring) shift to a more-vegan diet, I have come across the problem of prices of foods, and a want to leave the realm of processed foods.

One problem I have come across in my shift to a vegan diet is the price of milk alternatives. Soy/Rice/Almond milk can be extremely expensive, so I have learned to make my own.
Here are some links to some tried and true milk-alternative recipes:

Another problem I have come across is the price and over-processing (and general unhealthiness) of store bought granola. Making your own granola is extremely inexpensive and can be as healthy as you wish.
Basically any recipe you find will work, and you can adjust it to your liking. Here are some that I’ve tried:

I generally replace all the oil with the same amount of unsweetened applesauce. This helps to lower the amount of “bad fats” in your oatmeal, while it does not make you feel guilty for adding a cup of extra nuts and seeds. The key to making your own granola is finding your favorite flavors… I’ve made mocha coffee granola, apple cinnamon, banana walnut, orange cranberry, tropical (papaya, pineapple, macadamia), and others.

Play around, explore all these new ventures of veg*ism.

If you have any other fantastic tried and true recipes to share that will help us frugal individuals, post ‘em here.
