I've been vegan for exactly one month... and today I went to church with the family (one of the three days of the year they ask me to go, despite me not being christian) and then we spontaneously decided to go to brunch after a close family asked us to come over. As much as I love them, this family is like the poster child for the US food industries - they LOVE their milk, butter, eggs, bacon, steaks, etc. So of course, they made pancakes, eggs, bacon and hashbrowns - and so I ate everything but the bacon - yueckhsdlfkjf... and THEN some milk chocolate! After I got home I felt so disappointed in myself that I went to the gym and ran until they closed just now at 3 for the holiday. I guess maybe I'm mentally "purging" the dairy and eggs from my body by working out, but I'm still sad :( I really wanted to stay strong. Oh well, I guess it's like the analogy with falling off the horse... just wanted to get that off my chest.

Be VERY careful about the running to 'purge'. That can turn into something dangerous. Trust me. I know. I did it for a while. :( But today, I told myself not to be picky at family events. Had macaroni salad and some baked beans. Not particularly thrilled, but what's done is done.

I know how that is. Ive been vegan for 6th months and out of no where I ate my siblings milk chocolate. They got it for easter and I wasn't thinking. I feel horrible. But, life goes on.

Slip ups happen to everyone. The best thing you can do is learn from this experience. Good luck!

Yeah, I've had a brief flirtation with the exercising-as-purging thing. I think now I'm better at watching myself and making sure I don't fall into that again. But thank you for your comment!

Slip-ups do happen. I hope you have had a better week and make sure you don't beat yourself up about any future slip-ups. They happen to us all! Good luck!

don't feel too bad...just try to learn from the experience and maybe this will help make it easier in the future...now that you've had a slip-up and you realize that going back to non-veganism is something you really do not want to do, hopefully staying vegan will become even easier for you!

as for slip ups, critter byproducts can be anywhere, even with formulary changes (Hershey's Special Dark) they can happen to ayone of any amt of time. Forgive, go forward. help another newbie one day.
I still crave ceviche when I'm where it is real. we just go on best we can.

don't look at it as failure. you did what you could with what you had... look at this as one time, and move on. don't beat yourself up, you're still an AMAZING person :)

It sounds like your vegan inner self is still alive and well -- just keep focussed on who you are and soon you'll find that these temptations are no longer temptations at all.

Don't worry, things happen. It's only been a month, so it's still in that "change" process. I've only been vegan for two months, almost 3, and it's still odd not having chocolate.

you can have chocolate: try dark chocolate or Terre Nostra(sp?) rice milk chocolate. Green and Black's makes AMAZING dark chocolates with ginger, mint, espresso, organge and spice, and a 70% pure dark chocolate that's heaven.. dagoba makes a good spiced aztec chocolate, but that's the only one worth buying by them.. tropical source is yummy, but i'm a green and black's girl all the way :)
