I found the Veat Vegetarian Fillet to be awesomely delicious however it wasn't very fishy except for the look. I love the seaweed 'skin'.

The ones I saw at Incomplete Foods had animals in them.

According to their website, they're 100% vegetarian. What did you see in them that was animal products?

My wife and love them. We mainly use the Bites and the Nuggets. We use them in stew, mole sauce, fake chicken and rice, stir fry, mock Thai dishes and other things. The texture is great and the flavor is good as well. For those people who don't like fake meat products which are very much like the real thing, I'd say pass on these.

"Vegetarian" == ovo-lacto. Veat contains whey.

Got it, thanks, they're not vegan and not lacto vegetarian.

They are lacto-vegetarian, I think, but not vegan.

Why do they have to use WHEY protein? Veat sounds very good, but I wish they made it vegan.

That's something that often vexes me. I just don't get why things like chips and frozen veggies benefit from having processed bovine lactation leftovers added to them.

I hate how realeat products nearly all contain egg :(
whats the point? they could easily find a vegan alternative :(

Before I went vegan, just veg, I tried the veat chicken cutlets and they were so good, just like the quorn chicken cutlets which were the best. Problem is, now that I'm vegan I can't find any of quorn or veats products that are vegan, bummer. I would rather eat something with milk or cheese rather than eggs but I couldn't make myself eat anything with ANY animal products in them now, I'd literally get sick at the thought of the poor animal that is behind them. I'll tell you that I don't buy a lot of morningstar farms products because most of them are just veg not vegan but they do have a vegan product called morningstar steak and chicken strips. These totally rock and now I use them in all my recipes that would otherwise call for steak or chicken. Here's a link to see what they look like. I got our local Ingles Market to carry them for me. They so rock, trust me try them!!

I gave the wrong link for the morningstar farms vegan steak and chicken starters. Here's the correct link, sorry:

If Veat were vegan, I'd eat it :)

While they taste pretty good, they tended to get stuck in my teeth. Other then that, and the fact they weren't vegan, they're a good choice.

I loved this product! However, my local natural foods store stopped carrying it (but still has other Veat and Van products). Does anyone know of any on-line stores that may carry the Vegetarian Fillet? I tried contacting Veat, but no one has responded to me :(.

Instead of contacting Veat, try talking to the manager of the store. Many stores will try to accomodate customer requests, especially when it's an item where they already carry other stuff by the same manufacturer.

I did this months ago when I just noticed it was no longer on the shelves. The manager got back to me saying it must no longer be made or it just is not carried by their supplier. Thanks for the suggestion though. I guess my search continues...

Dairy is so pervasive and marketed so heavily (and so subsidized, which drives up production) that it's cheap and everywhere. It shows up in the strangest places, like pretzels. Once people wean themselves off dairy, I imagine we won't find traces of it in every food aisle.
